Hi! It's a bit off topic and I don't know what you guys want to do exactly but I work with an apc40 and a Launchpad. As irrelevance said, it's a bit confusing working with two controllers in the same grid. I got to this page, cause I was looking for an opportunity to program a button for syncing the viewing windows of my two controllers. So if you want to use two push controllers for launching clips, you'll need enough time for pushing your left/right and up/down buttons...irrelevance wrote:JBlongz wrote:Just the thread I've been searching for. Definitely want to use multiple PUSH controllers in the same Live set. It would provide better visibility of session view when using a large amount of tracks. I would also like to control the session with one, and the record-enabled track with the other.
I would like this also as I have like many others I suspect a launchpad lying around collecting dust since acquiring push. IME however there is a slight problem with this at the moment as multiple grid controllers in live are each given control over their own respective 8*8 grid view in session which means that each controller can potentially be offering a view of different parts of a set with no clear indication to orient the user. This may be a feature for some but for me it has worked out to be confusing. I think there should an option to turn this 'feature' on/off.
Also if push is highlighting a track it is as you say record enabled which means that if another grid controller in session view selects an empty clip slot it won't stop the clip but instead will start recording a new clip. This is true for my setup with push (latest firmware) and launchpad in the current beta 9.1b22.
Using multiple Push controllers

Re: Using multiple Push controllers
I don't want two for launching clips. I want to work in two modes at the same time. Push has session and note modes. I'd like to operate two simultaneously. Or even two notes modes where each have different scale setting. I noticed that Touchable App has almost the same functionality as PUSH, but it won't be the same as the physical buttons.

^^^ This...
I'd like two Push to have one for the left hand and one for the right when playing piano style parts as well as having one in Session and another in Note mode. It gets a little Twisterish trying to play one hand hand under the other on one Push.
I have a Launchpad and J74's excellent Isomorphic script but since buying the Push, I can't stand playing on the Launchpad...

Re: Using multiple Push controllers
As a follow up, I asked the Abe's about the possibility of using two Push controllers and the mention of it in their FAQ and this is what they said:
Hello there,
Thank you for writing to Ableton support and your interest in Push.
As much as we would like to encourage you to purchase two Push units, it is true that using two Push unites at the same time is quite limited in features.
Basically, they will steal the focus from each other.
The only workaround to this is to Lock Push to a Device, but this will only apply to the Device Encoders.
Setting each Push in the MIDI From menu for each respective MIDI track will let you control different instruments, but it will get confusing if e.g. one is a Drum Rack, and the other a melodic instrument.
Since Live and Push are constantly in development, it may one day be possible to use two Push units at the same time, but unfortunately we cannot say if or when this kind of functionality might be included.
We hope this helps! Please feel free to contact us with any further questions or problems.

Re: Using multiple Push controllers
Just wondering: What happens if you use PXT?
Can you assign in the Preferences one Push to PXT and one to the Push script.
Failing that: Can you lock one Push in PXT mode to a clip (i.e step sequencing a DrumRack with one Push in PXT user mode, including step automation and device control of that DrumRack) While the other Push is free to do its thing among the other tracks in the regular Push mode (not User mode)?!
Has anyone the possibility to try this out?! (Maybe has a friend who also has Push)

You can have one push in chord mode on PXT and another push on a drum rack. As long as you assign the MIDI channels for PXT to the instrument. So you can drum and play an instrument! YOu can't do this without PXT however.TomViolenz wrote:Just wondering: What happens if you use PXT?

You probably are, even though I actually figured that out many month back, when a friend brought over his Push. I just didn't update this thread accordingly. Sorry
Re: Using multiple Push controllers
instead of using 2 computers & 2 Push`s
it would be amazing to have a splitscreen-abelton live
which can preload .als - so you
could connect double-push and jam dj-like on 2 decks.
in the middle an aps40 mk 1 which can assign both
both sides like a DJ-Mixer
and one extra Masterchannel for the output of both decks.

Re: Using multiple Push controllers
Do we have any other updates on this thread? Regarding multiple push controllers in one instance of Live, aside from nativeKontrol's PXT Series?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Using multiple Push controllers
I haven't full tested this as I only have 1 push, but if you install 2 instances of ableton live, (just change the programs file name slightly after the original install to be able to install it again), you can open the same project file in both of them and choose which push to enable in both of the duplicate programs preferences.

Re: Using multiple Push controllers
Interesting workaround, will give it a shot when the opportunity comes. This made me thinking, how about saving the project under a different filename, then allowing multiple instances of Live 9? Open up the same project under a different name. Will give that a try too.D-DOTs wrote:I haven't full tested this as I only have 1 push, but if you install 2 instances of ableton live, (just change the programs file name slightly after the original install to be able to install it again), you can open the same project file in both of them and choose which push to enable in both of the duplicate programs preferences.

Re: Using multiple Push controllers
Well there is now novation launchsync m4l now which I don't beleive was available when this thread started. This does allow split control of session mode and I've been using it for a push/apc40kmII combination but the m4l on win 7 is tempramental i.e it forgets it's settings/sometimes doesn't initialize, completely slows down push when changing between session and note mode (10 second delay after button press is normal and sometimes crashes sets. So I'm now looking into a python script solution to allow combination mode on push.

Re: Using multiple Push controllers
Oh yeah that Launchsync M4L, I did see that come around. Didn't think it was going to be compatible for Push (as you have experienced, it's got it all bugged up). Kindly update us when you find a script solution yeah? These Python scripts are a bit confusing to learn. Thanks.
