Anyone using other than 4/4 in a session?

Hi all:
Loving 2.03
Now getting deeper into using the program onstage with funk and classical soundscapes..
Trying to figure out a way to have the time signature be able to change ..
Let's say we want a 3/8 measure to loop for a while int he middle of a show..
At present we can get to do what we want yet the read out of measures is frustrating as 1 is really not one..
Same for intros as well..
Any thoughts out there?

Yay Pod!

Someone else who does things in changing signatures.

Currently Live is not very signature-aware... I mean, you can put in clips in different time sig. but the global metronome will not reflect this, and hence triggering those clips is a pain.

I would like to see a way to have clips triggered after a 'master' clip ends, allowing changes to 6/8, 9/8 etc without hassle.

anyone else here working in other times ignatures?

Just to clarify,

What I mean here is that you can choose a track, which make LIVE take it's time signatures from the current playing clip.

I write a lot with changing time signatures, and it's really not so 'weird'.

The Beatles did it quite a lot, and of course a lot of new classical music has tried to 'escape the tyranny of the barline'.

yes I think that most musicians need to work in other than 4/4 quite a bit..thus the need for a changeable time signature

Another approach would be the option to make one clip the "tempo master", so that changes to a warp marker in the master would apply to all clips.

Hope this suggestion makes sense.

yes ableton please impliment multiple time signature in the rrange window
the world is not all in 4/4
yes I know we can make the whole song 3/4 or 3/8 or 7/8 but musically speaking this makes no sense to be stuck in one time signature here in the year 2003
Even in the early 1900's composers were making multiple time signatures a commom idea.
Help us out guys.

you can also just use no quantization or warping, and use samples (loops) with different time signatures (or non-proportional lengths). you can do really interest polyrhythms that have absolutely no reference to 4/4 time whatsoever.

yes great that you can load clips in any time signature unquantized..
every program out there can do that
to take full professional advantage of this program the time grid needs to be able to adjust to know where you are in the music in real time
no reason that we can not use various time signatures
paint on a canvas is cool but in serious production quessing takes too long and is very dangerous not to mention if using the greattime strech of this program its totally beat and dead if you have no way of having a baseline for tempo in relation to the current measure or time signature

In session view, having seperate measures for each Scene would be a great thing IMO. Just demanding flexible measuring is one thing, but don't forget that it's a real challenge to turn that into a UI that is usable in live situations.

I use non 4/4 measures quite often and I love how I can use Live to turn 4/4 loops in 5/4 loops

But the option of changing from one measure to another one on the fly is missing, still.

yes needs to be addressed in terms of being available in the interface to match lets say something you create that has changing time signatures
no one here is demanding BTW this forum is a wishlist but this seems to be an important one to me at least

First off: Live is massive tasty; I love it and have been spending all
my music time with it lately.
But yes, trying to have non-4/4 and/or different time sigs have
frustrated Me not only in Live but in Reason, Muzys, n-tracks,
Traktion, etc.;
I have hacked the problem by breaking down and buying a real
sequencer (Sonar) and rewire Reason or Live to it when I have a
piece like this. It isn't the best solution but it is workable.

Hmm; I haven't tried rewiring Live and Reason to Sonar at the
same time...will that work?

still hope that the arrange window might allow other than 4/4 time in terms of multiple time signatures for musical reasons(reason does not allow this either)
