Looks like Apple is dropping technical support for Mountain Lion and Mavericks overnight! Like many I've stabilised my music production platform on a mid 2012 MBP running 10.8.5 Mountain Lion. Why? For stability, driver, application and plugin compatibility. It's also a general purpose machine I use for banking, work etc. I'm not happy that there are now known security vulnerabilities that will not be fixed on Mountain Lion. CVE-2015-1130 : Emil Kvarnhammar at TrueSec
Please lets not turn this thread into a PC Vs Mac debate. This thread is a constructive thread on how to best manage such necessary upgrades and to help others with insights on some of the challenges involved. I'm looking for feedback on the various compatibility questions I have in my mind before I commit to the upgrade. I will certainly take a Time Machine backup before attempting the install.
First major issues relates to Max. This sounds like it won't work with Live 9.1.7 and 10.10.3. There's a new version https://cycling74.com/forums/topic/m...ates-released/ available, but it's not yet supported by Live: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=168887.

As most of you will know a music production suite is complex, with a myriad of applications involved. Here's my key ones:
10.8.5 64 bit
Ableton Live 9.1.7
Currently Max 6.1.7. Latest is 6.1.9.
Motu 828 MK3 Hybrid on Firewire 1.6 58373
Motu Cue Mix FX 1.6 58373
JBridge 0.89 for using Synths like Sylenth
32 Lives 1.0.5 Bridge for AU's
A wealth of AU and VST plugins; too many to list.
Liquid Rytm Max app

Other outboard gear that may possibly have issues, all on latest firmware. Any feedback?:
Microbrute on USB MIDI 1.0.3.2
Minitaur on USB Midi 2.1.0, Editor 3.0.0
Elektron Analog Rytm on USB MIDI 1.02D
Elektron Octatrack on MIDI + USB for sample transfer 1.25E
Other gear I don't believe will be affected:
MIDIFACE 4x4
Virus TI - connected via MIDI only
MIDI MuRF - connected via MIDI only
Ableton Push
APC 40 MK2 on USB
Strymon TimeLine and Big Sky pedals on MIDI only

Apple's fixed a serious OS X security flaw, but only for Yosemite users
What a mess! Thanks Apple forcing my hand.
For anyone interested in asking Apple to fix these issues on older platforms there's a thread here:

Ah well it was there. Apparently we're not allowed to request such things:

Forced to Upgrade to Yosemite! Max and Live Incompatibility
Re: Forced to Upgrade to Yosemite! Max and Live Incompatibility
7.0.3 or 6.1.10 should be fine with Yosemite
