problems when recording

Hi

I'm new to Live 5. I've bought it some days ago. I'm using it now mainly for DJ. When I'm playing songs everything works fine. But when I put it to record the problems start. I can´t hear the preview in the browser or it takes too much. The sound gets some hicups and it's very difficult to work.
I'm using a last generation Powerbook with 1,5gb ram and I fire the songs from the internal hard disk.
There is another annoying thing : what is the "decoding cache" ? I've noticed that it creates a lot of wave files that fills completely my hard disk even if I'm not recording anything !
