How is Live's MIDI clock out?

Post by zerocrossing » Mon May 11, 2015 9:15 pm

Recently I picked up a DSI Prophet 12. While it's LFOs seem to lock nicely to Live 9's MIDI clock, its delay processor seems horrible. It sounds to me like someone has an old bbg delay and someone is wildly twisting the delay time quite drastically. Something I like to do from time to time, but it's nice to be able to choose this effect and not have it all the time.

DSI support says, "Your MIDI clock is bad, but we're working on a fix that'll deal with bad MIDI clock better."

I'm writing because I have a KingKORG, Lexicion MPX1, and an Analog Four module and they all have delay effects that seem to sync fine. I will admit that I had a DX200 at one point and I could not use its delay because when it was synced to MIDI it glitched. Is Live's MIDI Clock out to blame? I've tried a MOTU MIDI Expess, Maschine and Analog Four as MIDI interfaces and they all have my issue.

Happy here.

I synch all my external hardware from Ableton through a MOTU MIDI Express XT. Never had a problem. This is what I have connected:

Novation Bass Station Rack
Korg Electribe ER-1
Korg MS2000R
Emu Xtreme Lead-1
Electrix Filter Factory
Lexicon MX300

I would say that if all your other hardware synchs the way you want... the problem is not with Ableton.

Yeah, that's what I thought too, but I figured I'd maybe see if anyone else was having issues with other gear or knew of some work-a-round to use while DSI works on a fix.

It has been suggested by some that Live's MIDI clock is jittery. I haven't measured this myself.
