Ableton Crashing on open of certain project due to Reaktor 5

Post by deano09 » Tue May 05, 2015 10:24 pm

Hey guys,

I have tried searching internet and these forums for a fix for this, and I have also contacted ableton, but i havent got a reply yet. Thought someone might be able to give me an idea to try.

Problem: I open a certain project, and it is crashing instantly when i open it. When i reload ableton, the crash report says it is Reaktor 5 that caused the problem. It is open for about 5 seconds before it crashes.

I have tried:
- Loading older versions of the song = ALL CRASH
- Using older version of ableton. Tried both 9.1.8 and 9.0.5
- Reinstalling Reaktor 5 (i am running current version)
- Removing ensembles from reaktor file, to hopefully load it with empty reaktor info, then i can go and build the song again.

Really stuck and frustrated as this song was very close to being finished. Any tips or ideas for something to try that would be great. It is weird that it only happens for this song and all my other ones using reaktor work fine and open no problem.

Note: I hadnt worked on this song for a few weeks and never experienced a crash previously. In between i updated my ableton to 9.1.8 and this is when the crash occurred. When i installed 9.1.8 I kept the 9.0.5 application on my computer, just incase something like this happened. But now it is crashing in both. Maybe I have to do a fresh install of 9.0.5? Which i cannot find on the ableton site. I have requested this through ableton so hopefully they give me a link for it. Is there anything i should know about when updated versions with directories etc that could cause problems between versions? Should I only be keeping one application on my comp? Just trying to figure out what is going on. Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers all

You could open a blank, new Live Set, then navigate to the problematic .als file from inside Live's browser. From there you can "unfold" the .als (click the little triangle next to the song title .als) Then drag-n-drop the tracks from the browser into your new, clean, Live set. If you drag them in one by one, and save after each drag, you should be able to re-build most of the set, skipping over the problem track(s) containing the offending Reaktor(s) etc, should it crash as you drag them in.

This method will let you import most of your project, but unfortunately has some limitations: you can't import Return tracks using this method, and you lose any assigned MIDI/QWERTY mappings. But it might go some of the way towards getting back your tune.

Hope this is some help!

Thank you Pitch Black for that help, that could get me out of trouble. I didnt realise you could go into the individual channels like that. Neat trick!!

But if anyone has any other fixes for the actual crash i would be very appreciative.

Did you try trashing your Reaktor preferences? Reinstalling might well not overwrite corrupt preferences.
