Surge Protector

Post by CoreyJayzMusic » Tue May 19, 2015 4:52 am

because of the hot weather i now have an air conditioner in my room, just installed today but haven't plugged it in yet... on my wall i have two outlets, one for my monitors and one for my imac...

i do have a surge protector but haven't used it, don't know if it might do more damage then good... i have read my manual to my monitors and they strictly say to plug straight into a wall outlet.... but what about my imac plus air conditioner?

here are my options, move my furniture around and place my computer near another wall outlet or use my iMac and AC on the same surge protector and leave everything alone.... its really a big hassle to move stuff around but will if i have too.

and no, i don't know how much voltage my computer or AC is using and i don't know how to look that up.

I cna't see what would be wrong with using a surge protector, provided it's rated enough for everything you're plugging into it.

I use a battery backup because it also conditions the power (removes brown noise) by smoothing out the spikes as it converts the electricity.

I used an APC UPS for years as well for the same reasons you mention, clean power and battery back up if something happens. Great option for sure.
