Wow--talk about a post coming back from the dead....anyways...the 2nd USB input on the macbook didn't help me.

When I called customer service at M-Audio, I was told that "It was a known issue, and they were working on it.." That was years ago, and as you can probably imagine--it wasn't exactly on the top of their list.

End of the day...just bought a powered USB hub--problem solved. At first, I was bitter I had to buy an extra piece of gear, then I got over it and spent the $20--totally worth it.

Good luck.

thx :D
i have to say though, im still a bit confused why a simple usb hub will solve my trigger fingers random cutoff... is it because since the powered usb hub is providing the power externally, thats something the trigger fingers cable doesnt have to, and it can send more data more accurately or something?

I have a hub and still get this problem. When it happens Live does not recieve MIDI messages thru firewire or USB. Heres a post I put in another forum. Someone please help if youve figured it out. I think it may have something to do with when the CPU runs high it shuts off inputs as a precaution. Im building a much better computer now Ill let you know how it goes.

I have this same problem but with some more clues. My midi light in Live stops lighting up randomly. I have multiple midis going through a MOTU into a profire interface. The MOTU lights ups as recieving signal. At the same time my USB devices stop working to and dont signal the MIDI light. Its like Live overloads and just stops taking any input other than from the keyboard. Its not just external VST's which I use arturia stuff but even the VST's in ableton like operator wont work. I've scanned lots of forums but found no working answer including deleting the preference folder.

First off I prefer legacy gear so save the dumb jokes. I have an older T500 Thinkpad I am setting up and finally ran into this problem of Trigger Finger MIDI controls cutting out in Ableton when plugged in usb at the same time with another M-Audio Fast Track Pro interface on the other port. I tried different driver installs, older vs newer, swapped usb ports; nothing worked. UNTIL I tried something that I used to do on the tf/ftp setup I had on a different Acer laptop. Sometimes I would boot up Ableton on the Acer and have to change MIDI port type prefs on TF to MME from DirectSound just to get the TF to respond. At first, switching to MME on the Thinkpad still didn't make TF work for very long. It was only after I also switched the Fast Track Pro interface port type to MME that I now have the TF, the FTP, and Ableton all working together in harmony!

DS sends signals through the operating system letting Windows handle the bits while I think MME keeps it strictly in the DAW environment; or something to that effect. Anyway, it's been working for a couple of hours so I'm calling it a fix for me. Previously all I had to do on the Thinkpad was open an internet browser or iTunes, or heck just edit some clips in Ableton and the TF communication would be lost (Enigma too). But for now it is performing fine so I'll post back if these results change in the immediate future.
