COMPATABILITY: Ableton projects between machines (+Hardware)

Post by Tim V » Thu May 21, 2015 1:58 pm

I’m trying to plan for compatibility issues with Ableton between my Windows 7 PC and a laptop running Windows 8.1. The sort of things I’m trying to understand are these:

1. Are there any issues with loading projects up, e.g. will my samples need to be wrapped up into a single folder and
2. Will I need to change any fundamental settings or ways of working between machines on the same project
3. Will plugins still operate the same way between the 2 Win versions, assuming same version of the plugin is used
4. Does only having USB 3.0 ports on the laptop mean any hardware (midi keyboard, Traktor decks, Push) plugged into it which has a USB 2.0 cable, create a problem (e.g. latency using an adapter or incompatibility)
5. Following on from point 4, can you just use a USB3.0 lead on a piece of hardware that comes with a USB 2.0 cable (in other words is it just the cable, or is the hardware itself unaffected by which cable)
6. Anything else to think of, which I can’t think of??

Any help greatly appreciated
