Live 9 Lite to Standard upgrade: is it worth it?

Post by neekogi » Mon May 18, 2015 9:51 am

Hi guys,

I recently got my Live 9 Lite copy, but after a month of intense usage I'm starting to feel like it's kinda "poor" because of its limited number of tracks (8), scenes (8), and sounds too.

I would like to ask you guys if there is any of you who was in my same condition or, on the other hand, if there's anyone who thinks that the Lite version is great and I'm not using it to its full potential.
I mainly use Ableton for live performances.

Thank you in advance :)

Yep, I was there.

I got the Live Lite version with my first audio interface. After about a week, I upgraded to Standard and I've never regretted it. Almost two years later, that's the version I still use.

I went from Lite to Suite during the Live 8 / Live 9 sale.
One of the best music purchases I ever made.

Yes, since you need more tracks. Just make sure that you also want to use all the features of the Standard version, which are very useful for live performance.

But imho Live Lite is a great value for people who already have a bunch collection of VSTs, thinking that freebies are already very good these days. Specially if they do minimalist stuff and can keep up with the limited features / tracks. I can see that it's going to be even more popular on cheap tablets with limited cpu power, as a portable sketch pad or other music activity. Specially when it's being developed to support touch devices better.

Lite -> Standard ... well worth it.
Blowing past those track/ return limits is a joy!

Standard -> Suite ... Imho, not so much.
I pretty much ignore all the extra built in sounds/ instruments in favor of a few 3rd party vst. On the last upgrade (8->9) I chose to only go up to standard.. have not once noticed the absence.
