Live 4 performance test?

Post by 3phase » Sun Aug 21, 2005 12:22 am

I dont like this test too much..at least it dont tells much about the changes between live 4 and 5.
I would be more interested to run the Live 4test in live 5 just with plug compensation on and see how this relates to the Live 4 test results.

That complex warping cost something is clear.. i rather expect it to be not really optinmized because it dont sounds as good as it eats cpu...
Its however an extra while the latenciecompensation is more than essential to work with live.. So i would found a test that shows us how much this feature costs more usefull...

Maybe Live 5 looks much better cpu wise when we do a more fair comparison.

This test is for comparing COMPUTERS, not Live 4 vs. 5.

The test does exactly what it is intended to do.

yes, but it would have been interesting to see a relation to the live 4 test.
The info of this test is that my computer is to slow to work with live 5 at all..
I dont think that this is true because imo the heavy load is mainly caused by the complex warp mode.
However.. 3 years are over..i need a new computer anyway...

1) 23-26% (edit: now peaks at 24% - see post below)
2) DFI Lanparty NForce 4 SLI
3) XP Pro SP2
4) Athlon 64 3700+ (San Diego) @ 2.36 GHz
5) 2GB dual channel DDR PC3200 @ 215MHz, 2-3-2-5 timings
6) Sound Blaster Live! Value (PCI)
7) Western Digital Caviar RE 7200rpm (SATA)

notes:
Sound card probably holding things back slightly. Need to set output buffer to 1120 samples (25ms) for uninterrupted playback. ASIO drivers would probably fix this.
The motherboard actually has its own seperate audio module which is quite good, but unfortunately one of my case fans prevents it from being installed, hence the SB Live. Will be replacing it with an X-Fi at some point...

As predicted... installed the kX project ASIO drivers and CPU usage is now 24% max... with buffer size of 512

yep' always on is set. i have no problems with any other software. a 'big' track in reason only uses up about 15%cpu.
