Live 5 + UAD-1 issues
I haven't seen this mentioned yet on this forum and it's been a major inconvenience since I started working on this track. I've got a live set with 12 audio tracks, 3 MIDI tracks with virtual instruments loaded, and 8 external MIDI tracks sending to my virus and 777.
I'm running 3 x cambridge EQ, 1 x 1176 SE, 1 x Plate 140 and 1 x Dreamverb on the UAD-1. The reverbs are set up as sends. Some of these are on tracks that are frozen, and I'm not sure whether or not, or in what manner, Live releases UAD-1 resources when tracks are frozen. In any case, right now, my DSP usage is at 48% and the UAD memory is at 21%. Live's CPU meter is running steadily at 50% from all the native plugins i'm running.
Now, I just tossed a Roland CE-1 chorus on a guitar track, and my CPU meter jumped up to 80%... and it's a UAD-1 plugin! For the life of me, I have no earthly idea why it might be doing this, but this problem sadly isn't limited to the chorus. If I toss on even a cambridge eq or 1176 on another track I get the same behavior. Changing my buffer setting seems to have little effect.
The DSP meter for the UAD-1 says that i'm nowhere near maxing it out, and clearly my native plugs are leaving lots of spare CPU, so does anyone know why these UAD-1 plugins are causing such cpu spikes?
I'm running Live on my 1.6 G5 w/ 1.5 GB of RAM, one UAD-1 card, and a MOTU 828mk2.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's not a smooth performance so be aware. There are problems with rendering (crackles and noises). The workaround is to resample the whole song in realtime, then use that .wav.Aton wrote:i am researching the uad-1 but this post has left me weary. Any update on what's going on???
Live still has a lot of problems with PDC, so this also applies.
I was having occasional crackles when using UAD plugs. They seem to have vanished in the last couple of weeks. I was constantly trying new buffer sizes. Maybe I got it right in my last config...who knows...
But no, it's (still?) not a smooth operation.
I use my uad card with no problems now. Honestly if you are having problems with uad gear call uad. The tech support I delt with there was fantastic. They sorted out all my problems. In fact I wish rewire with reason worked as well.
ABIT NF7+AMDXP@2500, RME Multiface, TC Powercore Element+Virus, UAD-1, Nord Lead2, Reason2.5, impOSCar, Microtonic, Reaktor5 and some other stuff...
