Drumracks with VST support and an extra Push improvement
Re: Drumracks with VST support and an extra Push improvement
Thanx for the input. I didn't try grouping the chains yet.
I also found out about another problem when using an external instrument like the Roland TR-8. In the external instrument you will have to set a latency. When routing the audio to another place, this latency isn't accounted for, so that's a big problem.
Now wouldn't it be nice to have drumrack that takes all these things in account? A special drumrack to work with external drum synths and plugins? Because that's the thing about this thread, a request for a better drumrack to work with externals:
- Being able to move the pads, instead of the receive and play notes in the chain. Because you want all pads together. For example you want the kick on pad C1, but in the TR-8 it's F1. You can do this now, but when you play the note from the TR-8 and want to receive it, it's still on F1, for the drumrack it's the wrong note.
- Seperate the audio from the pads so you can select how many inputs the device has.
This thread is about asking a better drumrack. So we have a nice one to one approach without the need for all those work arounds.

Sure, but it's also important to really know about the possibilities we have now, both for giving context to what we wish for and for getting to the important task of making music.Kibosh wrote: This thread is about asking a better drumrack. Drum racks certainly seems to be one area where some people don't know how to set it up. Ableton has some work to do there. I know of people that just doesn't use drum racks and are baffled by the simple little things I do with them.

Could I go ahead and do the same thing to machine what you just did to tremor?
So I could basically have one drum rack with each slot/pad pointing to one channel in machine, allowing me to define a whole parameter set for each pad/slot so I can use the drum synths from machine and control everything from push?

Probably yes,... Try it.
Re: Drumracks with VST support and an extra Push improvement
I still don't get how you can have a set of 8 macros for each pad. I am just having 8 for the whole drum rack

Re: Drumracks with VST support and an extra Push improvement
Drumracks only have 8 macro's. Didn't know you were refering to that.
You could try with a Max 4 Live plugin.

Well, you'll be hindered somewhat from the limitations of external outputs, which to the best of my knowledge can only be solved by using multiple instances of Maschine. Unfortunately I'm not very fond of Maschine, though I have access to the simpler version.yentzee wrote:Could I go ahead and do the same thing to machine what you just did to tremor?

As for using Push controller I believe you are limited to 128 parameters in total per instance. Don't let this stop you. Just select the ones that are important to you.

I can't help with the audio routing but to get around the having to tap the pad with the drum synth vst on to reach vst midi parameters you can use the max4live device multi mapper 16 which allows you to select parameters from any track/device in live. If you load a multi mapper16 on every pad also and group them/assign to macros you can have 8 macros on every pad, all going to the same vst. I use this with nepheton, drumspillage etc. Works well but a neater/quicker solution would be ace!
