I am trying to set up two instances of Ableton that are synced by MIDI, using OSX's midi application.
This is so I don't have to have a massive file with 150 tracks for my set but instead juggle between two songs at a time, one in each instance.
The second instance is acting strangely though, nothing shows up on the file or plugin browser and when I load an als file manually it opens but no sound plays.
I have set up the MIDI sync and nothing seems to be being recognised by the slave instance.
I really want to avoid the mega file approach, any alternative methods or fixes for this would be appreciated.
Second Ableton instance not working propelry
Re: Second Ableton instance not working propelry
so are you syncing two computers together or what?
ableton only allows one project to be opened at once
what is this "instance" you speak of?

Re: Second Ableton instance not working propelry
Change the name of the application and launch both, only one library will be available though as you've found... You need two computers to do what you ask...

Re: Second Ableton instance not working propelry
It is pretty strange that since L9 you cant open two instances because the *cough* improved browser falls over itself when opening the database twice. As if that is somehow an imposibility. Yet it's actually possible to open and perform actions on the files.db using other tools, if you want to. You could open it in Live and in Max if you want, or Live and Chrome! But somehow, for some reason Ableton decided two copies of live should become impossible. Very weird.
