How to save chopped audioclip as playable sounds?

Hi!

I'm trying to experiment and getting some new sounds to use when I play on my midi-keyboard. I've looked around but I can't find the answer of what I'm looking for on youtube or google because I'm not sure I should call it, so I'll try to describe it here.

Let's say you found a really cool synth sound. Let's take something easy like the opening synth/bass sound in Deadmau5's song "Some Chords". You get the audiofile for the song and put into Ableton Live 9.

Here you start chop out eveything but the first measure. How do you save/convert this chopped audioclip (synth sound on the first measure) to midi so you can use this synth sound on your whole keyboard. Is it possible?


I've tried the (magical) tool to convert the audio to midi, but it only gives me the notes to play, timing and beat, but it's being played on the standard piano sound, not the Deadmau5 sound I want.

It's not a big problem, but to get an answer to this would make things much easier.

So let me make sure I understand..
A. You have a synth sound loop or sample that you
B. want to take the Noise or sound from the first part of the loop and insert that into a device or something and play it in different notes using your keyboard as you would with any sound patch in a studio instrument or synth?
Basically you want to use that as a sound patch?

do you mean slice to midi not converts to midi? You could try this: Select the sample and assign playback to two keys on your keyboard. It will then slice the sample automatically in increments equal to the number of keys between the two circles. You can also do this manually.
To be able to convert to midi and keep the sound, you would need the patch of the original sound, which I imagine is probably impossible unless it is a preset or unless
you program it yourself.

Or you could just highlight the section of the loop you want in arrangement view and perhaps drag it into simpler, edit and tweak it a bit and then play it like a sound patch with your midi keyboard,
Or if you're really good you can try to re create the sound using massive, harmor or even serum.

Yes, I want a slice of an sample (just the sound of the first chord of a synth) to be played (modulated) at the different keys on an keyboard, just like a sound patch.

Is it possible to do this in Ableton?

you are trying to make a multi sample instrument from the sound?

if you do with just one sampled sound as a synth it will sound funny when you go away a few notes away you will need one of each sound in the different octaves to make a nice sounding synth (c0-c5) that kind of thing

if you want sampler to play the different samples you chopped up on different keys i think you need to use the zone tab in sampler and manually set the zones to each key

I'll try to find a way by what you wrote.

But then I wounder. What's the point of buing these Top 100 DJ sound packs when it's only samples from already excisting songs.. What should I do with them If there's nothing in them that I can use if I'm not going to do a remix.

i personally dont think buying sample packs are worth it

they are fun to use and get making stuff fast but sometimes they arent usable if you do music and get payed (i dont lol)

you can also put those samples into sampler or granulator and make a synth sound from them too you know

OP I will make a video tutorial on my YouTube channel explaining and showing how to do this. I recently started making Ableton live tutorials and I think this would be a great topic to cover. But aside from that it's weird Cuz I was actually doing this the other day and made a pretty dirty bass sound patch using a sound sample from a sound pack and some effects.

I agree with whole libraries but there is this

It’s like crate diving for individual royalty free samples and $8 a month for 100 samples is reasonable. You can even create your own custom playlists to review for download later. Whole libraries are usually packed with filler you will never use.

BTW Deadmau5 has a sample pack on there with 3,294 available samples.
