Hi raapie,
I'm excited about the results of your acer centrino (10% live 2 test). I've also read that you're using a RME HDSP Multiface, does it works well, clicks and pops free? I think that the cardbus controller on the acer centrino is from O2micro or something like that, and previous cardbus controllers from this brand had problems with the multiface. Could you confirm that it is working well?
Thanks a lot!! If there's no problem with the multiface I'll surely go for it!!! Oh.. I forgot, you said in a previous post that very little fan noise... after using it more, it's still the same???? THankssssss

testing one two
hi,
the RME I need to use a little bit more, but at the moment I am more into building a website using ASP scripting
the RME seems to perform fine... haven't updated the drivers yet. sometimes glitching at 1.5 ms, but on 6 ms I never had trouble (not really done some very serious recordings, just some guitar and vocals)... more later!
fan noise, yes that's a bit of a problem with the Acer. from time to time the fan comes in and starts blowing for like 10 seconds. it's a little too loud... I am considering to switch to a Sony Centrino laptop, but it's more expensive... keep in mind the fan is almost off all the time. but the fan noise is louder than my old Toshiba Satelite Pro.

sorry...typos etc.
I typed to fast... what I tried to say is that I don't have that much time to really experiment with the RME card at the moment since I am mainly coding in ASP.

raapie, when is the VSTdays thing and where is it?
Also, I'm happy to see the results of your Centrino laptop. When the ASIO2KS drivers come out this week, can you do a latency test with them?

yes and...
vstdays are in Rotterdam on the 14th and 15th in June this year
check: http://www.vstdays.nl
I would love to check out that driver. please let me know when this final version is available. you can email me directly if you want at [email protected]
Yes, that Centrino really is the funky shit... the only thing I don't like about the Acer is that bit of fan noise when the fan is running.... I am considering a Centrino based Sony.... anyone comments?

Here's my benchmark. Basically reposted from another thread for your viewing pleasure.
Make of computer: IBM Thinkpad R40
Operating system: Windows XP Pro SP1
CPU Speed: 1.5ghz Centrino
Soundcard: Motu 828 (2ms latency)
Result for test 3: 1%
Result for test 4: 10%
My system came with 256 megs of ram, but I'm planning to put another 512 meg stick into it. The internal harddrive is 40gig and 4200rpm (not sure of the rpm but I think it's right).
So far, I'm really happy with the speed on my laptop.

nice one
another great Centrino result. Someone was saying a Desktop P4 has more power, but I think the Centrino is as fast as a P4 but won't get as hot and doesn't need much active cooling power.
Re: nice one
...and it only costs half again as much for basically the same performance level as the P4. SOme of us have to have a budget. It would be silly to have the centrino but only have enough money left over for a usb audio device. Thats something I've noticed too much of--great computers with shitty usb interfaces---especially on computers running a program dedicated to live performance--that would be my nightmare to rely on usb audio for a performance.raapie wrote:another great Centrino result.
