Basic Question for DJ's

I am considering getting Live to use in my sets and was wondering if someone could answer this basic question:

Let's say I am spinning a track on a 1200. Now I want to mix in a track from Live. How do I match up the beats?

With version 2.0, you can "tap" along to the beat of the record and Live will adjust to that.

Sounds kind of risky. Is the synchronozation between the record and the wav file completely accurate? Especially if it's a long mix (approx. 1 minute)?

Mr Dj, why aren't you considering Final Scratch? That'd seem to fit your needs perfectly, bit of a price diff. but not that much. If you're sold on Live though (you want to spin your own tracks?-You can do that in FS too), you'd be best using tap tempo to get it close, after that you'll have to ride the tempo manually up/down as best you can. I thought you were able to use the +/- buttons to alter the tempo but I just tried it and it appears i was wrong...must be Cubase only.
Why not download the demo and try it at home?

I have been using Live with turntables and have been really putting in time to beat match to records. After plenty of practice it has become fairly easy for me and would be ok playing to a crowd. I just use (tap) on Live to tap in bpm of records then if you hold down the (shift) key on your computer and use the up and down arrow keys on your computer key board you can adjust lives bpm's by one tenth of a bpm which lets you adjust easily to a record, it is only as hard as cd dj tables. I wish live had a bpm push and pull function like on cd dj players or tracktor dj software. By the way, tracktor dj also works good for playing your music with records have you tried that? basicly Live could be easily used with records if you want to put in the effort to learn.

i would tap until it's pretty darn close in the que...

then retrigger the clip, and begin the mix, and adjust the outgoing record...

like mixing into a cd...

i don't think 1 minute is a long mix. for me, i like to stay in as long as possible, or is musically sensible. this tecnique works for a whole half a record just fine for me.

nah... dont bother tapping the tempo... bleedin waste of time.

mixing from ableton and decks is as easy as from deck to deck.

you just move the tempo on ableton in the same way you do the varispeed on a technics.
obviously you have to do all the time consuming warp marker shinanigins beforehand

takes a little while for it become as second nature as using technics, but there is nothing difficult about it... if you can mix on technics... adding ableton to the mix will be a cinch.

I'm trying to do a whole set in Live, but it seems there is only a master tempo control. How can I mix two whole songs in Live?

Warp markers in all tracks every 8 bars.

I have been using this peice to sync up to turntables. Takes some getting used to but works very well. Also, you really have to be neurotic about placing warp markers for it to work well.
