Re: iPad
I heard the 2nd generation Apple TV sells for good money on the used market, since it was the last one that could be jailbroken.
Re: iPad
I didn’t like the 2nd gen because they removed the HD. If your router or internet is down its essentially a brick.
The 1st gen had a HD. I packed my 1st gen with a 250GB drive with movies, TV shows, and music and took it to our cabin where there isn’t any internet but you still will have access to the tons of content on the drive. Also great if you travel a lot and stay in hotels. Just plug it into the hotel TV HDMI port and you don’t have to worry about internet or using your laptop or portable device for a media server.

if that's the only reason you're getting it... then don't. i have the YouTube app on mine. you must have inadvertently hid it or something. it's still there.beats me wrote:I’m getting the new Apple TV if for no other reason than the YouTube app. The YouTube app disappeared off my 2nd gen Apple TV years ago and I thought it had something to do with the fighting between Google and Apple, but I just found out the 3rd gen Apple TV has had the YouTube app. WTF? Is that one of those Apple-esque “just because we can” upgrade incentives?![]()

You must have a 3rd gen. The 2nd and 3rd physically look the same. Apple is about to drop the 4th gen.

Re: iPad
hmmmm.... not sure. i've had it about 2 years. maybe a little longer.
i got it from my neighbor who bought it for his girlfriend. she came back from a trip out of town and then died on his floor.
he sold it to me later... still in the box. point being; it could be older. she passed in April-ish 2013.
so it could go either way, but i wouldn't be surprised if it's gen 2. how can i tell? i'll be glad to check for you. send me a text this weekend to remind me to check it when i'm home... no sense in you buying a new one if the one you have works. seems stupid that the YouTube app wouldn't be on gen 2 (after an update) but is on gen 3. the OS updates should take care of that, no??
your original logic of google vs. Apple and such doesn't seem to apply.

Re: iPad
2nd gen came out in 2010, 3rd gen 2012. I looked for it on my 2nd gen Apple TV and both my parent’s 2nd gen and couldn’t find it.
But that’s not the only reason I’m going to get the new one, it’s just a “if for no other reason” item. I think I’ll take full advantage of going “Hey Siri, WTF did they just say?” and it will auto rewind 15 seconds back. I tend to space out a lot. I’m also curious how well the touch pad will work on the controller. And of course wii style casual games.

Re: iPad
Didn't know it will have Siri on it. I like the concept. Although thinking that it is listening to everything all the time with a live internet connection is a bit fucking creepy [Ex-Machina style].
Also, I kinda fucking hate Siri. Just yesterday I was driving and needed to call my son. I decided to ask Siri to call him. She proceeds to tell me that there is no home phone number and asks if I want to call his mobile number, the only number in my phone. Is this really a necessary question? Is this AI or AS? To add injury to insult, she failed to understand when I said yes. I had to make the call manually while she recovered. So much for hands free

Re: iPad
Yeah. I maybe use Siri 2 times a year and both those times are by mistake pocket dialing.
In other news, 3D Touch

Not included on the new flagship iPad Pro. WTF? It’s like Apple is giving you incentives to put off a purchase until the next generation.

Re: iPad
Of course we will. The whole gist of the computer industry is to sell people products that fail to solve their needs in new ways. (So they keep buying)TomViolenz wrote:Yeah, I too think OSX and iOS will merge in the next 5-10 years.
I just hope this doesn't mean that we will lose any of the advantages of either. (I think we will though

Also, iTunes is the single worst POS Apple has ever made.
