Strategy for Fade-to-grey effect?
Strategy for Fade-to-grey effect?
I want to send a loop through Fade-to-grey, and gradually turn the "1-knob" up all the way to get the full fade effect. Next I want stop the playing clip, letting the delay tail echo-echo-echo...
...but before the tail completely fades to silence, I want to retrigger that same loop back in as a clean/dry signal....
I have tried using send channels, and effect racks, but I'm having trouble finding an simple/elegant solution to this problem, especially because I want to do it "live" with push.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks.

Re: Strategy for Fade-to-grey effect?
Okay... I ended up finding a solution using an affect rack with a clean and dry chain list, and then a utility before the fade-to-grey with utility's mute button connected to the chain selector on the macro.... it's not perfect, but it's close.
I had been working on this for an hour or so, and all I had to do was post the question to the forum -and voila! - the answer comes... even without any replies. Ha!
Still.... with this method, it requires me to manually turn the fade to grey nob back to zero after I trigger the clean clip.... and that's kind of annoying...
I wonder if there's some M4L device that executes a series of actions (that I can specify) when I hit the clip launch button? It would be cool if every time I triggered the clip, the fade-to-grey nob would turn back to zero. Can anyone suggest forum search terms for me? Or a chapter in the manual?
Cheers

Probably there is. Clyphx comes to mind too.mylkoa wrote: I wonder if there's some M4L device that executes a series of actions (that I can specify) when I hit the clip launch button? Make some music!

Yeah.... thanks. I just found it. Wow... I never knew live could be this crazy.
Re: Strategy for Fade-to-grey effect?
Sounds interesting. I think I know what you set up with the previous description, but would love to see a copy of it, especially if you got a Max device resetting he value back to 0.
Re: Strategy for Fade-to-grey effect?
I haven't touched the idea of building an M4L device to reset a macro parameter to zero after launching a clip, but I downloaded ClyphX and am working on a solution that way. If/when I figure it out, I will gladly post my results. Cheers!
Re: Strategy for Fade-to-grey effect?
What about just making a duplicate clip that has automation which resets the fade to grey at the beginning of the clip?

Re: Strategy for Fade-to-grey effect?
Thanks for the video on that technique. I really need to grab ClyphX and learn it, it proved perfect for what you were wanting here.
Re: Strategy for Fade-to-grey effect?
Thanks, ecthroi, I still never really mastered that idea, but I might go back to it. I have been working on other stuff since.
I think the main thing I took away from trying to play with fade-to-grey is that it's good for transitioning between dissimilar sounds and clips... at least, that's how I use it right now. In a single track, when going from one clip to another clip that's very different. I can see why that affect was used so much by DJs, especially back in the day. My clyphx idea is imperfect, probably because I still have a lot to learn about clyphx.
When I made that video, I was more focused on the echoing tail, rather than transitioning. I think I can find a better way to keep tails, using sends or something. If I go back to that topic, I will repost. And if you find a good way, using clyphX or something else - please share!
Cheers.
