Recording patterns

Post by lukemack » Fri Sep 02, 2005 9:40 am

Hi,

I would like to know if it is possible to overdub record midi patterns (14.3.3 in the live 5 manual) without using Impulse or Simpler. I'd like to be able to record drum parts in the same way but using my midi keyboard to trigger sounds on an external sound module or individual samples.

Can anyone tell me if this is possible and, if so, how to do this?

many thanks,

lukemack.

just do exactly what it says in the manual, but don't load a simpler or impulse, instead set the midi out of the track to send them midi to the sound module. You mention individual samples, what do you mean by this?

Well the impulse was made specifically for this purpose. It's very good at simply triggering 8 drum samples.

Did you have anything different in mind?

ok - i suspect i can work out how to do that. but when i do the overdub recording without using impulse, the midi notes are recorded but the clip doesn't loop. any idea why?

hi,

this is resolved now. i think the problem was that i hadn't inserted a midi clip in session view - just getting to grips with Live as I go along....

thanks for the replies.
