Im using a variety of keys and piano tracks on ableton but i feel that the attack sound (sound of the note being played) is too loud no matter how low i set the velocity.
I know there is a natural attack sound which is particulary noticeable in acoustic piano, grand piano etc but through my inexperience it seems to loud to me and im sure there is a way of reducing the sound of it or possibly dulling it in e.q and id like to know is there any particular way of reducing it that more experienced ableton users may be aware of?
Thanks.
Piano key attack sound.
Re: Piano key attack sound.
If your piano sound is synthesized, I would recommend increasing the length, of the attack stage of the amp (and maybe filter) envelopes.
If a sampled piano sound is playing back, and your have tried experimented with different velocities, it could just be that sampled piano isn't to your taste.
The other option would be a to use a compressor, but really much better to get the sound-source right in the first place.

Re: Piano key attack sound.
You might want to check if the velocity sensitivity is actually turned on on the piano / keys instrument itself... otherwise, no matter what you set the velocity to in the MIDI clip, it won't make a difference in the sound. Also, if you find that velocity sensitivity is turned on already, maybe you need to change the amount.Frank09 wrote:Im using a variety of keys and piano tracks on ableton but i feel that the attack sound (sound of the note being played) is too loud no matter how low i set the velocity. Re: Piano key attack sound.
Hmmm, I guess you could add a compressor and mess around with attack and release setting (after you've set the threshold/ratio)? Try setting the attack to the slowest setting and then gradually make it faster - you might be able to tame that initial loudness a little.
Re: Piano key attack sound.
I'll look into all of those.
Thanks everyone.
