I was going to post in this thread three weeks ago, but as of friday, I have been cigarette free for three weeks. I've been clubbing and partying, the whole time surrounded by smokers and only had one instance where i had to really fight the urge to smoke.

And even though I myself haven´t read it, I told about Allen Carr´s book to a lot of people and at leat 4 have bought it! I started a movement here!
As for myself, it´ll be 4 weeks next monday.
I'm near the overdrinking limit after the non nictotine became my life.
Have to create some new good habits.
Zen and green tea maybe...

9 days here... Not easy everyday, but I'm ok. After a very enthousistic start, it's been quite hard last 3 days. I'm still very happy with the decision and don't want to look back. Determination in the decision is the key. I'm sure that an achievement in that decision will help me taking other big steps.
Alcohol.... mmmm... well, it's true I like having a beer in the evening, it calms me down, but maybe it's not new ! I don't HAVE to have it though, I'm not worried.
Keep cool Conny, glad all is good for you in that respect. Try not drinking for two consecutive days, you'll feel good.
And Smutek, if you read this, come back ! I'm sure you're willing to quit again, and it's always easier after a failure. Just concentrate until your determination is at the top, and you'll do it !
Cheers to all of you,

amo, 9 days, you have practically done it!
Be careful not to let yourself a cig as a bonus that you have made it.
Two days without alcohol was some way back... OK, I'll make it a challange. Let's say I'll do that sunday-monday. Need it. Need to feel it's no problem (well, it's becoming a problem...).

well done folks, just keep on!
for me: after 21 years smoking - 2 1/2 years no cigarette
and for 8 months no alcohol ... and I don´t miss anything - brightness rules

..well in fact I can´t enjoy parties anymore, at least if the others are drunk

Really inspiring to read how motivational and fulfilling it can actually be to give up a nasty, destructive, expensive addiction with willpower, discipline, and the support of others.
I for one am looking forward to smoking being banned in public places in England. No more bringing home equipment and clothes tainted with the putrid stench of cancer sticks!
Well done everyone!

Thanks conny for kindness and support, and the others too, for support. It is true there a quite amazing phenomena here. I mean with that Tobacco thing, in the last century. Still trying to figure out the making of the story....
Before I would never think I could live or work without fags, and I tried to stop several times, and failed. Now this time is after much meditation (not transandental, just thinking), and seeing the start of that discussion here helped a bunch too. Now I don't see how I could go back to smoking.... Well, I really hope and pray myself for keeping straight.
I don't think it is such a matter of willpower, wich leads to failure cause you're struggling with the idea that you avoid something that you like so much but that you shouldn't do for such and such reason.... It leads to frustration.
I would call it determination (and others do), meaning you take your time to decide wether you really think you like cigarettes, do you like the smell, the side effects, what are the good reason for you to continue smoking ? Then, once you're determined in a decision to stop, you just have to stick to it but it is much easier this way.
Anyway, thanks to the most amazing phenomena we could see on a music forum,
All the best,
amo

That's a very good and often ignored point - Do you have any idea the kind of damage smoke does to your equipment!!?? Second-hand smoke kills gear too...!!! And forget about trying to sell any equipment if it has been sitting in a smoky studio -
Many years ago - before I went to college, I had this job working for a housecleaning company. One time we went to clean a place where the woman that lived there had smoked for many years. She died there by the way. So there we are looking at the inside of the house, open some windows, let the light in and hit the wall with TSP and mops... Oh myfrickinggod - the woman had in essence managed to paint her entire house yellowish by smoking. One wipe from the mop on the walls revealed that her paint was actually bone white NOT yellow and you wouldn't have known it - it was equally distributed. It took us a week to get the grime off her walls. If you want to know what gross is try nicotene tar saturated water dripping down walls...
Congratulations on not smoking - and those on a path towards less self-destruction... One thing to keep in mind as you go is that it can't hurt to separate yourself from anything that is known to take years off your life. We all have to die and most of the time it will be awful and painful but hey no need to increase the odds of it happening in the form of Lung cancer heart disease or any of the other things associated with smoking and over boozing. Ever seen someone with Emphyzema....? The human liver can regenerate itself in an amazing way - a boozer with cirrhosis of the liver however is fuckt... bye bye...
