If Ableton were going to launch a new version of Push they'd have to do it at a big media event, a big conference or something, one based around exchanging ideas at the cutting edge of music, creativity, and technology. Bringing together artists, technologists, and other creative thinkers.

If there was an event coming up which happened to be ... a collective exploration of what it is to make music today and what it could be tomorrow.

Then I'd guess you might encounter a Push V2 there. Especially if it was in Berlin.
But I don't think there's anything like that coming up.

*cough*

Note: I am well "out of the Loop", so I'm just guessing.

I hope nothing new comes out for a while. I plan to get rid of my Push (just too limited without a Midi Editor) and I still want to get a good price.

You know that the Loop event is this weekend though, and that the Ableton store has been out of stock of Push for the last few weeks.
If you were a performance instrument manufacturer preparing a performance instrument conference - would you have empty shelves of your primary product? Or is it more likely you would be well on top of that issue, perhaps only clearing the shelves in preparation for putting something new on them.

Also I see that that the beta and bug forum/submissions and logging has been untended for the last month. Almost as if they are all really busy getting something ready for a deadline.

I for one am quite excited, we're in a golden age for new music instruments.

Really hoping for something innovative though, especially richer modes of interactions, rather than just buttons and knobs.

If it is something new, then I hope it will differ significantly enough from Push, that people don't replace Push, but buy this in addition.

So more like Shove (Arrangement view control surface) than Push MK2. Though I would assume a big API change to be able to finally control Arrangement would be something related to a major update to Live. So Live 10 rather than Live 9.3.

I would probably not buy it anyways though. Ableton dragging their feet on Pushs development and the lack of a Midi editor have soured me on Push.

But in this way I could still get a decent price on Ebay for my Push and we would get powerfull API functionality for Arrangement. Which would help all scripts and M4L.

I agree that I would like to have something that compliments the Push--It isn't desirable at all to be buying a new instrument every 2 or 3 years. It'd be great if they developed a modular solution to this, where their hardware could be connected into different configurations depending on the desire of the musician. I for one have no interest in a hardware instrument for arrangement mode, I'd like to have an easier-to-navigate session mode and more expressive performance controller.

It'd be great to see Ableton to aspire with their physical hardware to the persistence of traditional instruments-guitars, violins, and keyboards etc last for decades, allowing their users to really establish a connection. This is a major stopping point with hardware that depends on software--hopefully we're not implicated in peak consumerism by trying to keep up with Ableton's updates, as they continuously retire their old hardware.
