Push 2 Feature Whishlist
Hello Ableton-World,
I recently got a Push 2 and I love it but there are a few things that keep my workflow from really flowing,
here are some easy-to-add features I'd like to suggest:
- Duplicate a MIDI Clip to a different track (by holding duplicate and selecting a clip in the session view, then you select an empty clip to duplicate that clip to) beclöause I dont want to play that complicated melody again just to have it played by an additional sound
- Load Samples into Audio-Tracks (otherwise creating audio-tracks is practically useless with the Push 2)
- Transpose MIDI Clips (by semitones or whole octaves, maybe show this in the "clip" options? Next to changing the loop-lenght and all that)
- Move Tracks around (like moving insert effects) by holding the button below the track and turning the knobs left or right. You could also move tracks into or out of groups.
- Group Tracks (by slecting multiple tracks and press shift or convert or something)
- Change Track colors (by holding the corresponding track-button below the dispaly, color selection could show up next to the "move this track around" knobs)
- Set a fixed pad velocity in the Setup menu, or an option to set the "Accent" velocity to a different value when you hold the button pressed
- Load instruments into an Instrument Rack so I can layer multiple samples with a bunch of simplers.
I know this is a lot and I dont know if anyone cares about these features but I hope at least one of this could be added somewhen in the future *-* It would be amazing!

Re: Push 2 Whishlist
You can already load samples into empty audio tracks. At work, but I was fooling around with this last night, and I remember it as so:While in your audio track, press CLIP. Then press BROWSE. Now you can browse and load audio clips. Even if you couldn't do this, audio tracks have much more use than loading audio clips. I record mics, guitars and resample with it, every day. Definitely not useless.VirtualRiot wrote:Hello Ableton-World,

About layering instruments: Just make an empty instrument rack with multiple empty chains and save it, name it so you can find it easily, and simply load this up whenever you wanna layer stuff.

Thanks for the tip! I didnt know the thing about loading samples on audio tracks. The empty instrument-layer-preset is a great work-around!tedlogan wrote:While in your audio track, press CLIP. With Audio-Tracks being useless otherwise I just meant useless when using Push 2 only
Re: Push 2 Whishlist
No worries.
hehe, I also meant using audio tracks with Push/Push 2 - when recording guitar especially, and without a footswitch, using Push is very convenient for me. Prior to Push it used to be with the mouse, guitar on my lap, awkwardly clicking on a clip to record, my pick fumbling about between my fingers to quickly regain a proper grip, and then having to quickly return my hand to the guitar. Put me off the whole idea of even recording guitars. Now it's a simple press of a pad to do so.
I've just noticed the chains should NOT be empty - if they are, you cannot load anything into them. Empty Instrument Racks work fine though. Just hold down the master rack select button to show the different racks within to choose from. You can control each chains' volume and pan too, as well as mute and solo them by pressing the track select button to unfold the rack.
And I have to thank you for reminding me about layering stuff in racks - something I keep neglecting...really quick to do from Push 2, and a great way to play with sound.

Re: Push 2 Whishlist
I tried out your tip at home, it doesn't work.
I can't load .wav loops into audio tracks with the Push 2
With the mouse I can easily drag and drop them from anywhere, why not from the Browser on the Push 2? I don*t want to open up my laptop for such a simple move, it kind of kills the flow with the Push.
Thank you for the tip with the instrument rack though! This works just fine, didn't know about the keep-the-button-pressed feature there

Re: Push 2 Feature Whishlist
With the audio track selected, you must press Clip first, and then Browse. You can then browse and load any .wav, all from Push. It definitely works, I used it last night.

Re: Push 2 Feature Whishlist
The "Browse" menu that comes up then just looks exactly like the "Add Device" browse menu, not showing me any .wav's at all
I can load audio-effects into the audio track though, that works.

Re: Push 2 Whishlist
You can also click the track selector button below the screen, and no need to hold this down, which will unfold the instrument rack. Here you can see all the chain's volume and pan at once, which is very handy when mixing together a few instruments to play as one.VirtualRiot wrote:, didn't know about the keep-the-button-pressed feature there
To load instruments into these chains and not replace the whole master rack, you need to make sure to also select one of the chains at the top the screen, unfolded just after the rack. I'm not explaining very well and probably making it sound confusing...but it's very simple once you see how it works. A short video clip would explain it much better.
Re: Push 2 Feature Whishlist
Yeah, it pretty much looks exactly the same, though any folders with .wavs should show up. At work so I cannot check exactly what's up here, but I'm positive it works. It's in the manual too.VirtualRiot wrote:The "Browse" menu that comes up then just looks exactly like the "Add Device" browse menu, not showing me any .wav's at all![]()

Re: Push 2 Whishlist
I got that down! I made an instrument-rack preset with 5 empty Simplers inside that I can then replace with any other instrument or load with samples.tedlogan wrote:

My .wav samples honestly don't show up though, I don't know what I'm doing wrong there.
Re: Push 2 Feature Whishlist
Hmm, I'll have to have a look tonight when I'm home and see what's up with .wav loading.

Re: Push 2 Feature Whishlist
Thank you for looking into it
Re: Push 2 Feature Whishlist
Right, I should have mentioned that I am using the latest Beta.
I checked the general release version of 9.5, where loading of audio clips is not possible. Reading the release notes of the last 3 beta updates, https://www.ableton.com/en/help/article ... ase-notes/, I can see it was added in version b1.
I'd download the Beta (links to that in the link above) if not loading audio clips is screwing with your workflow.

Oh, I didn't know about the beta downloads, thank you so much!
Re: Push 2 Feature Whishlist
No worries, I usually stick to the Betas as I have not encountered much issues at all with them, and they have the latest features. Quite a few small improvements for Push 1 and 2 in the last one.
Like this one
Improved encoder responsiveness when selecting a parameter through a list on Push 2.
Much better now. Previously stuff like scrolling through EQ8's filter types would be a bit of a blur visually, now it's very snappy.
and so on.
