What is the use of Rebirth ?

Post by rikhyray » Mon Sep 05, 2005 12:32 pm

Tried it yesterday, rewires easily, I am not too impressed with the sound. I thought could be usefull for some remixes ( I mean DJ like gigs when the uberstereotyped sound of Roland drum machine turns anything into "house"). Is there more to Rebirth then free virtual drum machine ? Any info, links to tutorials etc will be appreciated. Maybe I underestimate this toy .
BTW. after downloading and trying I understood weird reaction of Rebirth user to RB becoming freeware. Even monkey can make techno with it ( or at least something that might sound as some sort of music) which makes it amazing toy ( wish there was hardware version, would be perfect for children to get them playfully into making music), now the Rebirth "producers" must be feeling insecure- anyone and their dog (fish, tortoise) may become techno producer.

Try downloading some of the top ranked user tunes (same site). No idea how they sound, but that should probably be as good as it gets with Rebirth.

There are also tons of user mods that reskin the interface and replace the sound sets.

tb 303 , mc 909/808/606 these are the hardwares .you can get these now in a vintage instrument shop for a big pile of money (i wish i didn't sell mine).
i think rebirth users are peoples who can't afford the hardware version .

a groovebox is the modern hardware version of rebirth .

Rebirth is a cracking piece of software.

Immense fun. REbirth producers feeling insecure?

What utter tosh! How will they feel insecure? Any producer worth their salt wouldnt even have been the slightest bit bothered by this...

Slate the program if you like, but i love it.

it's a great program!
good fun and a neat little sequencer to boot.

I enjoy sketching stuff in this software.

I like the limitations of it.

no, no , no I didnt mean any real producers or musicians, there was outcry on Propellerhead site, people upset that the program is given for free ( really sick, envious attitude). Damn, if Ableton would be giving away ver1 or 2, I would be happy that some kids could try Live without using cracks, how could that rob me of anything?
It is a compliment from my side that Props designed program that would let a child "create" some patterns, tunes and have fun with. I said "producers" not producers to emphesise that some individuals get deluded that by more or less random, sensless button clicking they create art. Nothing wrong with having fun but ownership of software licence does not promote anyone to an artist.
Anyway, I am not putting RB down, contrary, want to learn more about it. however the most important- the sound seems "weak" and "thin", Lives FX didnt help much. Maybe I should check it through Reasons Mastering.
