I'd like to be able to use my iMac speakers and audio interface outputs ...simultaneously.
Will this work or does it have something to do with feedback protection? Is there a way to turn it off in Ableton or in the OS?

Re: Audio output thru computer speakers and audio interface
there's a couple of ways you can go about it.
one is to create an aggregate audio device:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202000
another is to create a multi-output device, which is a similar procedure to the above.
note that cobbling interfaces together can work but is also more fragile, and sometimes there are clocking issues. not advisable for live work...

Thank you!
I will try my luck tonight when I'm home.

You might be able to route this up using Soundflower bed if you're on OS X. I'm not at my computer so I can't try but if the other suggestion doesn't work I would recommend checking it out. It's useful for a lot of other stuff as well. Especially sampling.
