First Studio Monitors

I'm after a budget set of monitors for my first set up. Just bought a maschine mk2 and purchasing a new laptop so limited in terms of spending money on these. Would the following be ok for producing house/tech house/techno, wasn't sure how they deal with low end frequencies.
M-Audio AV42
Mackie CR3

Or would I be better spending a bit more on something like the Presonus Eris E5's. Or would I be better off saving and getting something better further down the line?

I only make music for fun, nothing serious so I'm not too picky on equipment or the highest of quality, completely new to all of this.

A lot of decent choices right now. You could get a good deal on: m-audio, tannoy, and older gen mackies, if you look around.

Don't forget KRK! The entry model of these are quite affordable and plenty to be had second hand too.

I would suggest that if you like low frequencies then you also get a sub.

Maybe not straight away, but at least pick a manufacturer that has a sub in their range so you can add it in later (or when you discover how limited your budget speakers are!).

I have a pair of KRK Rokit 5 and a 10S sub.

I would wait, I did and it was the best thing that I could've done! (I bought a pair of Adam A7's in the end, well worth the wait).

I did a fair bit of net research, and it seems the best value budget monitors are JBL LSR305P. Around $300 USD or $450 AUD per pair.

Like the OP I'm thinking of getting cheap monitors. I've been bored with music recently, and figure maybe it's because I only listen through headphones. On the other hand, When I pass a pub or cafe playing surprisingly slick and tasteful music at a decent volume, I suddenly wake up and feel inspired. So it's just lack of variety. It would be great to find a radio station or playlist somewhere that has a variety of modern, slick, tasteful music.

I think it would be worth more in the end to wait and save up for some good monitors. Impatient music production purchases add up in the long run.
