Most annoying Push usability misses that goes me crazy every

Post by swap15 » Fri Dec 25, 2015 2:12 pm

I hope Ableton Live and Push developers read this post. You guys made amazing things... Push and Live are awesome! However, some little things spoil it all.

1. Drum channel parameters
Problem:
  • First usability miss (or issue): I can't get access to drum channel parameters from Push: volume, pan, and sends. Sends are most annoying because vol and pan I can tweak from device on drum cell. Impossible to make drum loop from one shot samples or drum synths without using Send/Return! I can't believe that you still didn't implement this for three years! Considering that Live Remote API already contains all the necessary functionality!
Current decision:
  • - Use some M4L devices. However, this increases the load time of the project and load CPU. In addition, M4L may be unstable.
    - Use additional midi remote scripts like PXT-Live
Expected decision: something like I press Shift + Track button on Push and can control vol, pan, sends of current drum cell/channel

2. VST Presets
Problem:
  • I can't save preset of VST plugin in User Library. So I can't use Live Browser to switch VST presets and add VST devices with selected preset like any Live device. You can say something like "Hey, use rack devices" but it is another pain and I described it below. Also impossible to switch presets inside from Push, map this combobox with presets names to midi controller and etc. But you allow change presets inside midi clip! Or I can send MIDI program change from M4L midi effect device but VST parameter will not update (parameters that I add by config button)!
Current decision: no decision
Expected decision:
  • Add something like .alfxp preset format for live tha contain Vst plugin name and values of all VST parameters. Ability to work with this like with regular Live devices in browser. Also fix all issues with switching vst presets via MIDI program change.

3. VST Parameters
Problem:
  • Why they can not be more than 128? Indeed, what kind of restriction? I know that looks ugly in VST panel under config button when a lot of them. But let me to determine the maximum number by myself, f.ex. in options.txt. Since you release Live 9.5 is very usable to control VST instruments and effects from Push, but very often number of 128 params is not enough. Also there is no ability to split these parameters to named banks and set readable titles.
Current decision:
  • Impossible to map more than 128 parameters. But I tweaked remote scripts and made toolchain to split parameters to banks and set titles.
Expected decision:
  • Increase maximum count of VST parameters. Implement toolchain for more usable mapping

4. Macro knobs in Rack devices.
Problems:
  • - I don't want to see unmapped macro knobs in Push when rack device selected.
    - If no one macro mapped in rack and rack is select then I want to see "best of bank" of first device in rack
That's why wrap VST plugins in rack is not usable. For access to VST params I need a lot of time press In and Out buttons. When I tweak drums synths in drum rack its a real pain.
    - Why just 8 macro knobs? Need named banks of macro knobs and switching between them. Perhaps it will solve the problems with the VST parameters

Not following point 1
If you select your drum rack on push and click it again the tracks will unfold giving you access to levels pans and if you created sends in the rack, send levels as well!
Maybe I am misunderstanding your point?!

Ohhh, sends in the rack??? Not possible with push 1 without PXT,are you talking about push 2?.I ask one person that had push 2 to check if you have access to sends in the rack and he told me no, maybe he didn,t create any return track.
if you have 6 return tracks on a drum rack you can control each send??? i,m not interested in control the volume of the chain , i want to control for each individual drum cell the amount that goes to each send.

Yes, Push2 has control over dum rack individual track volume, sends and pan. Obviously for sends you first need to create the group sends.

What login said!
Edit: now we need to get enough people to request a shift, convert option on push to create chains in racks and it would be almost 100% laptop free for me for writing ideas!

I think it's despicable. Developer implement this in Push 2 but not in Push 1 :(
