Kontakt 5.5.1 crash in Ableton?

Post by MrCravon » Wed Oct 14, 2015 3:07 pm

When using Kontakt 5 as a plugin in Ableton live i get a crash where i have to force close Ableton. When i load Kontakt 5 it works fine until i try to close the plugin window. Upon closing the window the whole program freezes. I first noticed something off when Kontakt on default opens the "Auto" tab instead of the "Libraries" tab.

My Kontakt 5 standalone works fine.

I tried reinstalling Kontakt, and it only resolved the "default opens the Auto tab" problem.

I am planning to reinstall Ableton now but i would really like to avoid it.

Any suggestions? Is there a known problem with windows 10? I am not sure but the problem might have appeared after my update from windows 8.1 to windows 10.

Info:
Ableton Live Suite 9.2.2 64bit (Max for Live 7.0.6)
Kontakt 5.5.1
Windows 10 64bit (core i7, 16GB RAM, SSD)
Focusrite Scarlet 18i20

try running kontakt standalone and load an instrument. Kontakt is known to crash lots of daws until its default library path is established. This is something a lot of people dont read in the NI installer..

after running in stand alone, quit it and run it in ableton, and see if it fixes your problems.

It works perfectly fine in standalone. And I tried your suggestion. I still crashes when exiting the plugin window within live. If i leave it running in the "non responsive state" for 10-15 minutes it suddenly manages to close the window and things function normally again, just to repeat the next time i open and close the plugin window. Could it be that is scans or saves some thing that takes a long time while closing? It uses 3-5% CPU when in the "non responsive state".

I also tried:
- Reinstalling Live
- Reinstalling Kontakt 5 with an older version.
- Tried turning of the "multicore support" in the VST. This was mentioned as a fix for crashes with Kontakt but it made no difference for me.

Anyone else managing to run Windows 10 with Ableton 9.2.2 and Kontakt 5?

Kontakt 5 also works flawlessly as a VST in Maschine 2.

I tried updating all audio interface drivers.

Is there any way to rollback to a previous version of Live to see if it happened after the 9.2.2 update?

Not exactly your setup but my laptop runs it fine.
Windows 10 Pro (64bit), Live 9.2.2 (32 bit), Kontakt 5.5.1 (32bit)

Just a small update on this in case anyone experience similar problems:

After completely formatting my drive and installing clean windows 10, twice. I seem to have located the problem. Turns out it's not software related at all. I have four RAM modules installed in my computer, each being 4GB for a total of 16 GB of RAM. I recently (long after the problems with Kontakt began) started to get the very seldom "blue screens of death" relating to memory management. Turns out one of my RAM modules most likely have some bad sectors or faulty components on it even though it shows up as working fine in the system information in windows. After carefully removing each module and running the windows memory diagnostics tool. It turns out that leaving the (most likely) faulty ram module out of the computer solved the problem with Kontakt crashing when I close it after using it as a VST inside Ableton. It now works as it should. I have also not seen any new "blue screens of death" after removing the module.

Thanks for the help anyway folks!
