All i want to do is delay the noteOff messages. how can you make an effect called "note length" where you can't simply delay the note off messages?
all this effect can do is produce fixed lengths for all notes regardless of the length of the incoming note. not very useful. (i know you can use note pitvh to vary note length but why the hell would i want to do that?
has anyone made a maxpatch that does this ?

Well this is what its name suggest and i have some really cool uses for it.

I still want a "humanizer" where it shifts the start and end points and velocities by random degrees to simulate more human interaction. Not a plugin style effect but a parameter I can apply in menu to selected notes.

I would fully support that. The random humanize functions were some of my favorite parts about Battery. You can do the same with the MIDI plug ins in Live, but combined with grooves....

What do you do with it, Chapelier?
I have never used it before today... but I found it useful with a sampled percussive/bleepy sound that's 250ms long... nonetheless there's several parts to the sound - a distinct squiggly attack, a pitch fall in the middle, and then a pitch leveling at the end with a slight timbre change... leaving a fast release (80ms), infinite decay (aka 60sec in Simpler) and Sustain at -inf... then changing the length of the note in small increments brings out certain parts of the sound... better than the ADSR seemed to be doing....

Yeah with Drum racks and some ADSR settings, playing with Note Length can have great effects.
Also, i tend to put it before an arpeggiator and melodic sounds. Also after the arpeggiator.

How is that different from using the Arp's gate parameter?
