much respect to Ableton
much respect to Ableton
I've used several hosts/sequencers over the past few years, and I've always been unhappy with certain aspects of these programs. I've primarily been an FL Studio user. FL is a great program, but certain shortcomings inspired me to look elsewhere, and I'm glad I did. I can't tell you what a breath of fresh air Live 5 is to me. I'm thoroughly impressed with the attention to detail you folks at Ableton have. Not only is the software outstanding, but it's so helpful to have such well-written documentation. Just wanted to say thank you for making such a great product.
I'd like to put in my vote for future feature additions. There are so many fun and inspiring ways to manipulate audio clips in Live, I'd like to see some more options for MIDI. Note randomization based on chords, mirroring, etc. are some of the few things I miss from FL. I realize MIDI is still very new to Live, I'd just like to voice my support for the further development of that area.
Regards,
Duncan

word, Live is great. A cool best of both worlds solution is to use FL rewired into Live--it works great, I gig with the two quite often with no problems. For me, I kind of prefer using both--FL is great at midi, not so good at audio, Live is great at audio, relatively new and sparse to midi--the two are perfect compliments. I worry about Live trying to be too all-in-one DAW--it should continue to focus on being a rock-solid performance tool. If Ableton tried to implement all of the functionality of FL into Live, it would get messy--for me using rewire is a great way to get all of the features I want/need and then some. just my 2 cents...

Until 2 months ago, I had been using Logic for about 4 years. Now I use Live and Numerology exclusively. I started with Logic 5. In total, including the upgrades to 7, I've probably spent more than $1500 on the program but it's not even installed on my computer anymore. I think "dumped" Logic would be too strong a word, but let's just say I don't bother to use it anymore.
The only thing I think about now & then is EVP88. I'm currently thinking of getting Lounge Lizard to fill that gap in Live, but that's it! Logic has more robust MIDI and arrange features, but you know what...I didn't use those little extras missing in Live anyway. I am finding that I am working much more productively with only one main DAW. I stay with Live now, because it just makes sense to me....things aren't unecessarily complicated and it just flows the way I think about the music.
I don't even have my copy of Reason 2.5 installed anymore.

Note randomization based on chords... try the "random" midi effect and put a "chord" midi effect after it. Maybe I'm completely wrong. I don't know for sure what you mean.>v^<^^ wrote:Note randomization based on chords, mirroring, etc. are some of the few things I miss from FL.

Re: much respect to Ableton
That's good stuff, thanks. FL can generate MIDI data using commands where you can choose octave range, a chord or scale, note length, plus velocity and things. I guess Live can already do it in a way if you let it run in real-time and record the output.davy wrote:Note randomization based on chords... try the "random" midi effect and put a "chord" midi effect after it. ah k, now i know what you're refering too. well, live is a live-tool, not a daw pure sang, so the way it is now is great. setup something like i did in the above mentioned topic and record to another clip. only thing i don't know how to do is to change note length>v^<^^ wrote:

do you know how can I change the size of FL Studio window? My FL studio is only in full view mode and I don't how can I change this. I need to see Live and FL simultaneously on desktop
I think it should be resizable by dragging one of the corners, or hitting one of the little buttons near the top left, by the fruit (or is it on the fruit--I'm not on my music machine right now). I got to say that having dual monitors is definitely the way to go with FL and Live--I have a little 15" LCD panel monitor that I use in conjuction with my laptop monitor, and bring it to gigs. For home use, it seems one can find cheap used monitors just by asking friends or in the paper--it is very handy to see it all at once, and not sacrifice screen real estate on both fronts....poshook wrote: do you know how can I change the size of FL Studio window?
