NO audio whatsoever

Post by davidtheduck » Wed Jan 20, 2016 2:34 am

I need to do a recording for class

Here I am with my brand new focusrite scarlett 2i2 and Ableton live 9 and a huge urgency to record a composition for class

Ableton is detecting my input but I am getting no output onto my usb headphones, none, tried exporting what I recorded as a test, no audio, not in windows media player, not in itunes, no not nothing, and yet I did the whole thing of highlighting the audio, and exporting, I followed the "getting started with ableton live" to a literal T and nothing

I need help, I beg, I plead, I can't fail this class.

update:

I'm apparently able to export audio now (I have no idea what I did) and sound can play out of windows media player and itunes after exporting but I still can't seem to use my usb headphones as a monitor, is there anyway to fix this?

Likely because your headphones and your soundcard are both seen as soundcards and on a lot of OS's you can only use one at a time. IF you're on OSX, you can set up an aggregate device to use both at once.

he's using Windows...

but the same logic applies. check your audio preferences in the control panel.

just in case we're off base... please describe your setup; what's your audio interface and where is everything plugged in (headphones to interface or to computer audio jack)?

My audio preferences on logic are

Driver: ASIO
Audio Device: focusrite USB 2.0 Audio Driver
USB logitic headset plugged into a USB port to the computer

what else do you need to know? Be really specific, I'm very new to all of this.

What happens when you plug your headphones into the Scarlett?

You really should be plugging everything into the Scarlet and setting your computer to use the Focusrite driver to manage all audio - except system sounds (errors, that annoying jingle you hear when you sign into your computer, etc)

Hello, sorry if this is ever so slightly unrelated, but feel free to point me to the right forum if any.

I've been having a problem that Ableton has not been including all of the external VST effects on an exported audio file. Playing the songs live I can hear all the effects but after it's exported some are clearly missing, especially all effects within the VST plugin called Plogue Bidule. So I've been having to export my finished songs by way of an external audio file to wave recorder plugin in the master rack. Do you think this would yield equal results to bouncing a tack with Live? And any suggestions of getting all external effects to export on the bounced track? Thanks!!

Not sure why that would be happening... Unless maybe you're using some kind of soundcard VST bundle on the interface output or crowding the Master with pre and post fx that get canceled out on export... But you should probably start a new topic with the button near the upper left of the page. It has nothing to do with the issue in this thread.
