Getting back into it

Hi all.

Kids have grown up, have more spare time etc usual thing. Need a few new pieces of gear. Does anybody have any experience of one of these?

Also, does anyone use a field recorder? Could anyone suggest a good one?

I don't have any experience with that interface but the price scares me a bit. Most people are generally happy with their focusrite interfaces as a cheap option.

Yes, like sana48 mentioned, what do you need it for?

If you are thinking of recording with a condenser microphone, you would need a separate pre-amp with phantom power, as this card doesn't offer phantom power. Also, while this card has 4 inputs, you can only use two at a time (check the Rear Panel description in the manual).

As for a field recorder, I use the Zoom H4N and have been very happy with it. You have many quality formats to choose from, up to WAV 24/96khz. The pre-amps are very quiet, giving you very little hiss when you boost the amp. Apart from the two built-in mics, there are two other XLR/TRS inputs to record with your own mics (the zoom provides phantom power) or line level inputs. You can record all four sources (the two built in mics + the two inputs) all at the same time onto four separate channels.

I've been using it to record field recordings of all sorts with the built in mics, as well as movie dialogs with my own shotgun mics and booms. I have a friend who also records live dj mixes with it in clubs, having the straight feed from the mixer and also the crowd noise recorded by the mics at the same time.

Hi mate,

Not sure about the interface but I do use a Tascam DR-05 as a field recorder. I absolutely love it - great recordings at a great price...however, the Zoom these guys mentioned certainly looks like a superior unit.
