They are playing some Humphrey Bogart movie at the theater this month. Even with just the preview there was something comforting about seeing him up there on the big screen in his black and white greatness.

After that preview and the fact that my Netflix DVD queue is fairly sparse at this point it’s going to inspire me to do a little Googling for best pictures based on decade, maybe starting at the 30’s and spend a month or so watching movies from each decade.

May I suggest you start your journey in the 1920's? The art of cinema had become quite sophisticated before sound ushered in a whole range of limitations. It took years before sound cinema caught up to the pre-sound era.

I’m kind of nervous to go back that far though, don’t know how much time I could spend in the silent era. Some good movies for sure but I don’t know if I could go full emersion. And I have a falling asleep issue even with the current loudest action filled movies.

Alright. I put Steamboat Bill Jr., Metropolis, and the Thief of Bagdad in my Netflix queue. They don’t have the other 2. I think part of my sleeping on the job problem is I’m usually watching movies in my room in bed. Going forward I’m going to start watching movies on the projector in the living room from the recliner and a big tub of popcorn and gallon of Coke like I’m at the theater. We’ll see if that helps. I think this movies by the decade project is going to take a while because imbd has the top 100 movies by decade, although I don’t plan to watch all 100.

At any rate it will beat my usual low queue count routine like this past week I re-watched 1408 hoping it wouldn’t be the turd I thought it was. Nope, it’s a turd. Not the least turdy of which is inappropriate music for a horror movie. Just because a door swallows the key and the door knob breaks off doesn’t mean you use music like he’s picking a lock in a heist movie. It’s as if they used a bot that loosely detects scene type and then slaps cliché music over it.

Good show Sir! Let us know what you think of them. I was pretty surprised by how much I liked Thief Of Bagdad.

I hate when that happens! Sometimes it turns out OK. I re-watched Lifeforce & thought it was an absolute hoot! Didn't care for it at all on first viewing (probably because I was trying to take it seriously), but the second time around I realized that it was completely insane & very funny.

I'm re-watching Malcolm X this week. Not hoping it is better than I remember it, but because I don't think I was mature or history oriented enough to appreciate it when it was released.

Movie released 1992. Too soon for spoilers!!

Reminds me of a Key & Peele skit where 2 couples are at dinner but couldn’t talk about anything because it would spoil it for somebody. As a passing comment one of them said “Well, we’re all going to die sometime” and everybody is all “Damnit, man! Why did you have to spoil that!? What’s wrong with you?!?”

So my girl is a librarian and gets the download codes for movies that they purchase, so we get a bunch of free stuff on iTunes. Just got Fantastic Four and Terminator Genisys.

Someone described FF as a 100 hour trailer for a movie that never happens. Spot on. A steaming pile.

Terminator Genisys I had very low expectations for and while it mostly lived up to them it was at least dumb fun. Lots of fan service with connections to the first two movies.
