Live Looper and multiple sub-clocks within a session?

Post by Faldoe » Tue Feb 09, 2016 1:37 am

I have a default looping set which has 4 tracks with a looper in each.

Is there a way to have two loopers sync together and the other two sync together?

I play with a drummer and we don't use a click. A lot of our stuff is improve and I love the freedom of hardware loopers like the Line 6 Dl-4 but it's draw back is it can't be synced with other DL-4s, but what makes it so great is how live (playing live) friendly it is.

Often using Ableton, I'm bound by the timing/tempo of the first loop. If I stop that loop and record another loop, the timing/pitch of the first will be altered if I record a new loop on another track at a different tempo.

I know I can mimic the DL-4 with Ableton by having each looper have no quantization and thus be like a free-loop, which doesn't work with the main Live clock.

Is there a way to do this but have pairs or groups of Loopers sync'd to each other but not the main Live clock?

I don't know about actually syncing them but I'm pretty sure you could midi map the start button of each looper to the same control, essentially starting them at the same time etc..

I don't think it's possible. That would be awesome, though. To have a free syncing system across loopers.
The only way would be with max4live or Python, but i don't think the API even allows this.
This might be easier with M4L and recording loops in clips instead of samplers. I think i've seen a M4L device with this spirit in mind, made by a french fellow man. Can't remind the name though.
MacBook Pro 13" Retina i7 2.8 GHz OS 10.13, L10.0.1, M4L.
MacStudio M1Max 32Go OS 12.3.1
