Reason 2.5 to Ableton 5.0.x

Hi there

Yes I'm a n00b, and yes I have a basic problem that can probably be fixed in about 10 seconds. I have searched for a solution on the forum, and I have read and followed the tutorial from ableton, as well as searching on the propellorhead w/s, so OK here goes:

I simply cannot get Reason 2.5 to work with Ableton 5.
I load Live first, then reason. Go to reason, make mixer and redrum machine. Put a few beats in and then go back into Live. Go to in/out section:
Midi: All Ins (I do not have a keyboard)
Monitor: On
Midi to: reason / redrum

But I CANNOT hear it... what am I doing wrong? Both programs work fine independently, but together I get no audio output. Arg. My only conclusion is that I am somehow mentally retarded, and that there is a blindingly obvious solution that I have somehow completly missed.

Hi Welcome to the forum!

If you have booted Live first, then Reason as you describe, if you hit play on Live, does Reason start and run in sync? i.e. do the bar counters of each app run together?

If the answer is yes, you have Rewire, but no audio communication between the 2 apps. In the Input/Output section of each of Live's tracks you should see an option in "Audio In" to be set to Reason (and then any Reason sub-tracks you have set up).

"Audio In" rather than "Midi In" is possibly what you're missing, as long as you can see the two apps are running in sync. If there is no sync happening at all then Rewire is strangely absent and you have another problem somewhere.

Post us some more info on your computer Mac/PC processor OS RAM etc and somebody should be able to get you going.

That seems to be outputting correctly now, (I can hear it). But how do make it record so that I can see the clip in Ableton? Also is there a way to toggle automatic playback from Reason if I do not want it to play all the time I am listening to the Ableton file
