organising your music tracks in ableton

Post by beatnik » Fri Sep 02, 2005 12:59 am

I've written a step by step how-to on an alternative way of organising a music library for Ableton if you use it for DJing. It is very useful if you have a large itunes library and browsing through the itunes folders is increasingly frustrating.

please feel free to contact me if you have any comments or feedback.

thx!

i split my songs into pieces, and save them as ALS's.
then i keep the ALS's together where i can get them quickly, whereas the orignal wav's and alc's and asd's stay nestled in a deeper folder.
before i had the als's deeper, in folders for artist, then ep or title, then mixes, etc.
that became cumbersome, and forced the browser window to need to be expanded further to the right, sucking my precious real estate on my 1024 x 768 screen...

another trick is to use shorcuts (windows) to navigate. u can create them in the browser if i recall, but make them in windows, and they appear properly.
im develpoing a subway - esque network of shortcuts.
my favorites at the moment: MASSIVE. FM8. LIVE 6. Bome's Pro. KORE.

It will answer your question on ALS

And yeah, there's a search bar in the files/clips Browser
