"Lifefarce" !!!
It's like at least three different movies spliced together!

Re-watched Malcom X. Pretty good considering it was released in the early 90’s. The first half hour was like some bizarre music video with strutting around the streets in zoot suits and big choreographed dance numbers in the club. I also had a good chuckle at the heavy-handed “Afro Americans” since we now live under oppressive political correctness and Afro Americans is no longer appropriate. Spike Lee better update the movie so as not to offend anybody.

i decided that being politically correct takes too much work when i heard they added a Q to LGBT on the radio Sunday (yesterday). i'm not sure what LGBTQ is, beyond T, but i can't keep up with the approved fetish list fast enough to keep up with the acronym that doesn't spell shit. so i'm done. call me old.

I just ended my experiment with Netflix Blu-ray after about a month (free trial) because with DVDs I could get new releases fairly quickly. Switching to Blu-ray that has been sitting at the top of my queue for weeks saying “short wait” no matter how many movies I returned.

Switched back to DVD and it shows as available, should be getting it Wednesday.

Anybody seen Room? Didn’t even hear of it until yesterday but it’s going to be available on Netflix DVD in a couple weeks so it’s probably already available for purchase or rental. Odd I haven’t heard of it since its nominated for Oscars including best picture. Heard it’s really good in a disturbing difficult to watch type way.

Just checked with my “wish we saw you more often” mom if she wanted to go see Hail, Caesar! this weekend. She said she’ll pass because she’s not a George Clooney fan. What?! What elderly woman isn’t a Clooney fan? Or a fan of 1950’s Hollywood for that matter? Although, I don’t think she checked out anything beyond Clooney is in it.

If you want to come down to SJ this weekend we can go see it.
BTW. I’m on the wagon at home these days now because drinking alone at home is like sitting around alone with a condom on. You could do it, but what’s the point. So don’t expect any drunk dials from me anytime soon.

what is this wagon of which you speak? where does it take you?
i like this plan of yours. i have a 4 day weekend... i have plans tomorrow and Saturday... but Sunday is a toss up. i might be going to see my brother at the Delta but his somewhat ex-girlfriend is involved and that means that things can change and probably will. if i can make it... i'm down.

Cool. I’ll shoot you a call. Sober. We’ll sort it out.
Watched Sicario last night. Good movie. From all the buzz I was expecting a lot more “this wouldn’t happen if it wasn’t for the demand in the US” but that was only a passing line. It’s kind of sad that for some people this is a mind blowing revelation that they only realized through a Hollywood movie, but I also realize a lot of Americans think we’re always the solution and never the problem.

George Clooney was also good in:
Solaris
Steven Soderbergh remake of Tarkovsky's 1972 original. Beautiful, plus it has an excellent soundtrack by Cliff Martinez.
Syriana
"I think "Syriana" is a great film. I am unable to make my reasons clear without resorting to meaningless generalizations. Individual scenes have fierce focus and power, but the film's overall drift stands apart from them. It seems to imply that these sorts of scenes occur, and always have and always will. The movie explains the politics of oil by telling us to stop seeking an explanation. Just look at the behavior. In the short run, you can see who wants oil and how they're trying to get it. In the long run, we're out of oil." ~Roger Ebert
The Good German
Steven Soderbergh's film noir homage (particularly The Third Man & Casablanca) Shot in black & white, Soderbergh shot is as if it was being made in 1945, using only the tools, cameras, sound equipment, & lighting of the day.
