I also burn my iTunes Music Store purchase to CDs just for backup sake.

The fact that it converts them to unprotected AIFFs for use in Live is a bonus.

When you make a purchase they specifically tell you to burn your songs to cd for backup in case of system failure.

Soundflower rocks,anything ANYTHING that plays through your built in sound can be routed to live including the little snippits that the I.M.S plays can be sampled.
It's a workaround but hey it works!

I hate iTunes. I'd rather walk 100 miles to buy the CD's than purchase any Apple product.

Of course they are protected. If not no Label will give Apple the rights to sell the music. But there is a simple way to make them useable: make playlists and burn them as an Audio-CD. Then import them into Live.

AudioHiJack=$

Soundflower=Free

And yes you can sample off of DVD's with Soundflower,i do it ALL the time.

I also suggest VLC,find it on versiontracker.com,it's just a player like the DVD player that comes on all macs.However the VLC unlike quicktime and DVD player,has a time line that will allow you to quickly get to whereever you want in the movie.
i have a .als setup as a template with my triggerfinger set to quickly record and then continue watching the movie.A couple of the pads are set to move the scene select up/down.
I can grab samples super fast this way.
Once i have all the samples i want i drag them onto my external drive into a folder that is neatly organized by movie.
A little more info than you asked for but i felt like sharing......
