What equipment to accompany Launchpad Pro? Keyboard and Kno

Post by Hermanator » Wed Feb 24, 2016 1:42 am

I am new to producing, and I like Abletons workflow better than the others I have tried (save for Bitwig, since it is similar).

I just have a Launchpad pro, and I would like to expand my controls to reduce the use of the mouse Nd computer keyboard. Naturally, the next item that has grabbed my interest is a decent Keyboard (Novation SL MKII 25 or 49 key most likely).

I have a 4' wide table to work on, so the Launchpad with a 49 key, or launchpad with launch control XL and 25 key would be the best use of space.

I dont have a background in piano, but I am slowly learning to play simple tunes on my cheap Yamaha keyboard (61 key, has midi usb out but no real control beyond keys)

Thank you!

If Live seems like it is a fit for you i'd probably suggest looking into the Push (even Push MK1).

That will offer you a keyboard surface, controls, finger drummer + sequencer, scales, tight Live integration.

Perfect tool for a beginner because it's very intuitive to wrap your head around out of the box.

I love my Novation remote sl mkii.

It has knobs, endless or not, and faders. They definitely come in handy.

I like the Push a lot, and it does help learn. I like how well labeled and fairly bug free it is.. but the cost for onlyy being able to integrate into one piece of SW is a discouragement.

I have my LP Pro performing a lot of similar functions, such as the drum sequencer and key lock, with some MIDI Remote scripts I downloaded.

I hear that the Push still is no replacement for a keyboard.. so I wanted to pickup a keyboard first and stick with my LP for the time being

Thanks for the feedback! It looks well worth the current cost.

Keep in mind that the xy and drum pads are kinda useless. Everything else is wonderful. It'd make a great match with the LP.

Are you using the LP95 script?

I was really hoping for some new midi keyboards to be released at NAMM but blah..

I'd get a cheap midi keyboard for the keys and wait to see what's around the corner.

Yes, although I am still fumbling through it a little. someone developed a nice one similar to it for Bitwig Studio also, which required less fumbling. :-)
