Simpler "snap" causing drum loop to fall out of sync

Post by JZ Chicago » Mon Feb 29, 2016 3:36 am

Hello all! First post.

Running newest Beta 9.6.1b4, using Push2.

Is there a functionality to disable Simpler's Snap on the Push device itself?

issue:
When I load a break beat sample into Simpler, find my loop Start and End, click "Warp as x Bar" I am getting a little chunk of my loop taken off of the End marker. Clicking on the Snap button on Simpler (via mouse and computer) changes this but there is no way to disarm Snap on the Push device that I can see.

The missing sample length is visible on my computer but not on Push's screen. And its pretty big... not just a couple milliseconds.

This ends up making my drum loop fall out of sync. It begins looping slightly more ahead of time each time it loops. If I sequence a 4 bar clip using a 1 bar drum loop (by holding down a pad for 4 bars), by the end I am off track. If I try a 1 bar clip, 1 iteration of a 1 bar loop; there is an audible silence at end of loop. This happens for 1-shot mode or classic mode.

Also tried to load a blank Simpler, disable Snap, Save as Preset Default but loading a new sample ends up re-enabling Snap.

Is this expected action for Live? I assumed Snap was only a cross fade and not actually truncating the sample length.

Thank you so much for reading this. I would be glad to provide screen shots or a short video if I am not being clear.

Three days, no response from Ableton Support.

Is this normal? They may be busy with lots of issues but I am surprised that I havent gotten human contact yet. I provided the video, a Status Report file and my explanation. I hope that suffices?

Just wondering if any of the 8 or so people who watched my youtube video are seeing the same thing on their end? I would truly appreciate any feedback. :)

thank you for confirming my issue, ash1 :) I read your first comment Monday and I was glad somebody else was at least seeing the same thing (thought I could have some weirdo issue with my computer in particular or something).

I just got word back from Ableton support and they say Push not displaying snapped waveform and "Snap" re-enabled on Simpler are "known bugs and prominent wishes".

So its really good to know that they were able to identify what I was describing. They actually took time and read/studied what I was writing so honest kudos to the team. Working at a software company in Chicago, I know that customers can explain issues in cryptic ways. The only thing to do now is sit tight and wait on an update that will fix em.

So all is as good as can be. Its not a total bummer that I have to reach for the mouse once I drop a loop into sampler to unable Snap. I am a new Push user and trying my hardest to learn how to construct music entirely on the device.

Will post their entire reply in my youtube video, in case anyone else comes across this predicament in their work flow.

Thanks for an amazing music program, Ableton! Its truly amazing! Looking forward to the update that includes these enhancements/fixes.
