using 64 bit plugins in Live 9 from Live 8 32 bit
What is the best way to overcome Ableton 9's requirement that all plugins be 64 bit when I've got many 32 bit plugins I've been using in Live 8? I mean.. is it just a given that I will lose all of the free plugins I had downloaded years ago and somehow have to reinstall the ones I've paid for, tracking down those install cds and starting over? I've heard of the "Bridge" software option, but that seems pretty complicated to have to use another outside software to do this.
I really primarily use only a handful of plugins.. let's start with Native Instruments Battery and Massive, which I use all the time. Is there a way for Native Instruments to handle this (i.e. download from their site, as a user for many years)? I could reinstall from the cd in the box version, I suppose, but that just seems pretty inconvenient and I feel I'd lose content I've added to each plugin.
Please help!
Thanks!

There are 32bit versions of Live 9 too, just download that one from your account and you're good to go. Eventually though everything will be 64bit, so I'm guessing it's something you're going to have to address one way or another if you want to stay up to date with your software.

That's really helpful. I appreciate it!
One question - Would keeping it 32 bit impede using all of APC40's capabilities in Live 9, as it "works" as a midi controller with lower versions but only has full functionality with Ableton 9 (and would the 64 bit requirement be part of that)? I know this is more or less an Akai question, but related..

Everything you buy from NI is available for download in your user account including Komplete Ultimate if you want to spend a week downloading it.

Nice -- It's been a while since I've logged on to my account over there. Would that also mean I can redownload those as 64 bit? Maybe the issue would be losing any third party packs I've added in Massive, but maybe not so much in Battery, as I think those are all NI packs I've added.beats me wrote:Everything you buy from NI is available for download in your user account including Komplete Ultimate if you want to spend a week downloading it.

Actually you should just be able to run their Service Center app to get updates if you already have them installed.

Soundpacks and samples are not affected by 32-64 bit.
But first, do you have more than 4 gb of RAM? because if not there is no point in using 64 bit Live.

There are also other solutions such as Jbridge to wrap 32 bit to 62 but adding an extra layer to the equation can cause some issues on some systems and will affect stability.
Most of the "Pro" or maintained plugins will have 64 bit versions you can upgrade to but for many smaller plugins from years gone by wont.
When I moved from 32 > 64 I had probably a good 50 plugins which I wrapped using Jbridge. For the most part they worked fine but as I upgraded Live over the years I decided to just ditch the old plugins and use only 64bit. Was good as a cleanout so now I can focus learning more of the ones I have.
