Intergrated GPU only please

Post by Peevee » Fri Mar 18, 2016 2:21 am

At the moment Live forces OSX into using discrete GPU this is causing my Mac Book Pro mid 2012 to overheat and trigger the fan when only on tiny projects, however when I switch to intergrated GPU using gfxCardStatus I can run large sessions with QT movies synced and no fan noise. Why can't this be built in to future Live releases.

Hi,
I was really interested to read this little message about the fan use when Ableton is loaded on your Macbook. I have a similar machine and the fan kicks in really quickly and drives me quite insane; I didn't realise that the GPU was part of the issue.

Is there way around this?

Thanks,
Adam

The only thing that I can find is an app called gfxcardstatus you can force the GPU in your Mac to stay on itergrated rather than dynamic. Logic uses a different GPU to Ableton this app shows which card is being used. Ableton drives my fan really hard where as Logic or studio one have very little fan activity, from what I've read it's the GPU load in Ableton that is putting the pressure on.
