How to keep a recording going while stopping play

Post by alexfsu » Thu Apr 14, 2016 5:00 pm

I want to record a session but I need to stop and return to certain markers. Is there any way to keep a recording going on the whole time in the background within Ableton? Thanks.

I think you would have to create the arrangement you want manually either in Arrange view or Session view. If the transport stops then recording is going to stop.

Why do you have to stop if you don't want to stop? That doesn't make sense to me.
It's perfectly possible to keep an arrangement playing in a loop and make new recordings in Session. Just don't use the transport controls for aborting recording. But I don't know what you want here as you're quite vague.

One idea that comes to mind is that separate app that keeps recording MIDI input at all times in the background and then let's you drag and drop right into Live. I forgot the name now but I don't think it was very expensive. Of course this app only records MIDI so no solution for audio recordings.

It's Capture MIDI for OS X that is at $6.99.
