I really wish NI would force third party Kontakt library developers make their updates available through NI’s Service Center. I’ve gotten 4 update notifications from third party developers and their install methods are download/install methods are usually convoluted. I’m not looking forward to attempting updates for them now.

So, I'm poised to trade in my Push 1 for Push 2.
The main reason is ergonomics, Ableton dropped the 'user interface' ball with Push, and picked it up it looks like with Push 2.
It's hard to part with the cash though, so I'm attempting to do it tonight over waiting till the last day like normal.

Did you do it? Now that I’ve started messing with Live again it’s become apparent that Push 2 would make a useful addition and I don’t have Push 1. But the price to me pushes past an impulse buy. Will probably wait for at least one of those random 20% off Guitar Center discount coupons.

Yeah, in traditional fashion for me I pulled the trigger on Sunday, the last legit day to do the trade in deal.

I agree at full price it's expensive, especially considering it's completely geared towards Live and only Live, but as much as I liked Bitwig Studio when looking at it, as much as their projected strategy makes sense, (networked project management for internet collaborations like Ohm Studio, and their own internal Max type set up that isn't dependent on developers on the other side of the planet), Bitwig doesn't do ReWire an has the laughable position of thinking that Jack is a suitable substitute on OSX, plus they have the same bad ignorance about the usefulness of SysEx implementation as Ableton...

So Live is the only game in town for Performance IMO still, especially if you consider writing in it and working with other DAWs. Also I feel if I'm still not sold it's not too much of a loss what with the $249 off for the trade in. Granted like Push 1 here there are areas I'll hardly ever use, I just don't see me thinking it's better than Maschine for drums, or better than a keyboard for composing, but I do see myself using the pads live, and the scene firing, as well as the automation functionality it has for composing etc.

As somebody who doesn’t use much automation I’m discovering that having controllers automapped to common parameters helps me explore more possibilities. Most of the time I don’t even know what I would want mapped to hardware.

i even set reminders for the 3 days before and still didn't do it. not because i did not want Push 2, but because even the muse is like "pffft, you hardly use the first one". so, the universe did me a favor and i didn't pull the oh so typical American "but i saved $xx.xx!" by actually spending 3-7 times more than the "savings!". i got no reminders and i forgot all about it until the 2nd.

i did like the deal in general, but have no business spending that money right now.

I hear you. Honestly I still think it's not much of a deal, especially if you paid full price for Push 1, all told that's roughly $1200 for a glorified MIDI controller. Them getting to hook kids into Live by having the things in classrooms is 100% win win.

Mostly I well overpaid my estimated federal taxes last year and I'm getting roughly $2,500 back! so I figured considering I really don't get along with the display on Push 1 and 2 is a massive improvement that way... I can't see myself comfortable onstage with Push 1, but 2 seems bright enough, and laid out better, odd reasons, but I plan on only using a streamlined setup for most things: Push 2, Rig Kontrol as a audio card guitar pedals, guitar and laptop..

Forgot to mention, I probably wouldn't have done it if I had paid full price for Push, I got it for $300 off of eyeknow before he disappeared off the forums. That puts me at near the price of Push 2 without the discount as far as total cost for my investments into Ableton's controller journeys. I'm going to miss the software for User mode PXT general etc. for sure.

I can't see myself comfortable on stage. Also, I can't see myself on stage. I can't even see myself comfortable.

Buuut, I too ended up ignoring the whole trade-in business. I'm not all that obsessive compulsive about being hands-on with audio clips. Push 1 works quite well for what it was made for, and I haven't really been using it enough to warrant an upgrade to Push 2 anyway.

Reminds me of when somebody tries to sell a custom hotrod on shows like Pawn Stars. Just because somebody invested and tailor-made something to their taste doesn’t mean somebody else is going to want to pay that much for it.

I love the idea of the EQ section myself, I've long been a fan of A&H 4-band EQ for the flexibility it offers. This just looks to contunue that idea to me.

But yeah, I was thinking today how crazy expensive your average CDJ/mixer set up is if you're trying to get used to the stuff you're likely to find at a decent club. So much money for such (relatively) limited functionality in some regards.

I find it kind of interesting that Pioneer is getting into the software and groove box game after just being the gold standard of DJ hardware. It doesn’t really feel like desperation a la Microsoft falling asleep at the wheel while Apple plowed over them, but I think their pricing structure is a little suspect like Apple, prohibitive to a lot of people for their top tier hardware with a hint of “Fuck off, hobbyists! DJing is SERIOUS BUSINESS”.

I think they're just marketing gear to clubs themselves and not the DJs. Same with Technics and the new 1200's they're releasing.

I was going to say I would think part of a quality club default setup at this point would be a computer with common DJing software the DJ could just run off a thumb drive but then I realized a club probably doesn’t want to be responsible for the stability of a computer, maintaining it, software versions, or a DJ gumming it up.

Maybe a manufacturer could develop a computer that handles all those scenarios but there probably isn't enough money in it.
