What is a torrent File and how do i open it?

Xtrullor, (A newgrounds dubstep producer) sent me a torrent file thats 30GB and none of the free apps for windows 10 worked. The best one was sooooooo slow and it loaded like 1 kb per 10 minutes. I dont know what torrents are! I need help!

AFAIK a torrent is a middle man file that just points to the actual files you want to download. If your internet speed is fine than a slow transfer usually means it’s slow on the upload side. I don’t know where the original file is being stored or if a lot of other users are seeding it also but a 30GB file is hefty for even corporations that have the capacity to handle the traffic.

Yeah, probably not the best place to ask about this sort of thing. Not saying you were implying it, but we don't tolerate talk AT ALL about software piracy here, just a heads up.

Always interesting to see what people see as a conversation with a pirate and others see as a general topic. And if it is determined it’s a pirate some will be “I wouldn’t recommend it” while others will be “You’re a cancer. Kill yourself!”

Didn’t think torrents were by default synonymous with piracy but now that I think about I’ve never downloaded a torrent that wasn’t pirated software or media. So there's that.

"Piracy" is so 1999.

Bit Torrents are just a very effective form of file sharing technology and not synonymous with piracy, I've seen plenty of legit uses.

Plus I seem to remember in the distant fog of time that a little birdy told me Ableton actually made their own crack that would stop working after a couple of months so people had time to get addicted and build up some projects.... seems like a sensible solution to me.

AHAHAH that would be a smart move. In the 90's there was a PC video game called StarFlight, it asked for an anti piracy question at start, related to the games manual. If you replied wrong, it didn't stop you from playing. But after some time, like two or three weeks, you were playing and all of a sudden, a space ship came from nowhere and it was the space police, and it endend your game, right at a time you were really addictive.
