using MIDI keyboard keys instead Push 2 pads
using MIDI keyboard keys instead Push 2 pads
Hi, do I get all the functionality of Push 2 (including Push step sequencer feature and visual feedback on the pads for the keys pressed on keyboard) if I am using it together with MIDI keyboard connected to MIDI In of my audio interface, playing the same patch of course? When using Push sequencer I will not be using In Key scale mode but rather would like to be able to use (play and record) all chromatic keys of my keyboard.
Thnx
Thnx
Re: using MIDI keyboard keys instead Push 2 pads
When using Push, any channel you choose becomes controlled by Push.
During this, the track arm button turns Pink. When you arm a track for a keyboard, the arm button will be red (there are a few keyboards with exceptions to this, and there might be ways to make your keyboard act in the same manner as Push for 'pink'-armed channels).
So, when you use Push, it might be easiest to set Push to session view, and simply select channels to use your keyboard on by arming them from Push. When you do this, I'm pretty sure that it also selects the track. And while it is selected, you do get device control still.
If you're hoping to get 'note repeat', that will not be supported. And, if you do choose to keep it in notes mode, as long as the channel is armed, both Push and the keyboard will use that channel.
But if a channel is armed, and Push goes to a different track, the keyboard will not automatically follow it unless you arm that track.

Re: using MIDI keyboard keys instead Push 2 pads
Thnx for the info yur2die4! About note repeat on Push 2 I wonder if you can set note length of repeated notes. I guess by default it is 50 % of the quantize value as on AKAI MPC? I would like to have it at 100% so there is no gap / silence between notes when repeating melodic parts.yur2die4 wrote:When using Push, any channel you choose becomes controlled by Push.

Re: using MIDI keyboard keys instead Push 2 pads
If I recall it is 100% gate length on Push, which has bothered me sometimes. I prefer to have space between notes in most cases. It is not adjustable from my experience.
Re: using MIDI keyboard keys instead Push 2 pads
Ok, thnx but it can be changed to whatever value after recording right? Also, can repeat be used in 64 pad chromatic mode? One more question. As I understand, Push step sequencer only works for 16 pads / notes? If yes, can playing in 64 pad chromatic mode be at least recorded directly into Live 9 track?yur2die4 wrote:If I recall it is 100% gate length on Push, which has bothered me sometimes. Re: using MIDI keyboard keys instead Push 2 pads
After recording you can highlight all and drag the endpoint.
Or you can use the 'Note Length' midi effect to shorten the notes and record to another clip.
Or you can just use the Arpeggiator instead of note repeat from the start.
Note repeat can be used on all playable pads on the device. That's drum rack/sequencer mode, 64 pad mode, and notes mode.
There are two step sequencers. For notes mode there is a step sequencer that you can scroll the pitch for, and you can press multiple notes at a time.
In the drum rack step sequencer, you select any pad and it shows the sequence of that sound on the upper 4 rows of pads. It shows the sequence for one device at a time, which is really nice because you can edit it in decent detail. It shows 16 pads on the bottom left corner, but you can scroll up and down the drum rack so you have access to all available drum rack slots for step sequencing.
There are some videos on the Ableton page that show the sequencers.

Re: using MIDI keyboard keys instead Push 2 pads
That's great thnx! This is getting out of topic now but just have one more question. I saw the video on repeat function while the guy is holding down a pad and uses aftertouch pressure for velocity (volume?) variation. I wonder if it really sends different velocity velues or only changes the volume and repeated notes have the same velocity as on first touch. For example: I create multisampled instrument with Sampler that has 4 different samples per pad / note that are configured so that they are velocity switched. Now what will happen if using repeat and aftertouch, will it switch samples or it will be the same sample repeated varied in volume level only?yur2die4 wrote:After recording you can highlight all and drag the endpoint.

Re: using MIDI keyboard keys instead Push 2 pads
In repeat mode it does change velocity.
You can turn on Accent if you want a constant velocity.
Push also supports aftertouch, but in this case I do not think it would have much functionality (notes start and end too quickly)

Great & big thnx again yur2die4 for all the info!
