Chain selector and MIDI mapping

Post by oktopus » Tue Jul 19, 2016 8:33 am

Hi,

I've been wondering if there's a way to map a specific MIDI button to select an instrument inside a Chain selector. So far and despite all my research, I'm only aware of the regular way to do it, with a knob. The point is, I find it quite tricky sometimes to quickly select the instrument you want, especially in a live situation...

I'd like to be able to assign a dedicated MIDI button on one of my controllers to select one instrument of my rack. Here's a picture to show what I want to do :

Does somebody here know a way how to achieve that ?

looks like you've chosen 'distrbute ranges equally' but that's not needed here.

• set your chain spans so they each have a width of one (so chain one is at position 0, chain two is at 1, chain three is at 2 etc)
• enter MIDI map mode and click the chain selector to map it to three keys, one per chain: while holding C1 on your keyboard, tap D1.

now C1, C#1 and D1 will select which chain is playable.

Awesome !!!

Thanks a lot garyboozy for pointing me out this elegant part of Live's MIDI functionalities :D
That's actually a behavior in Live which I wasn't familiar with until now. That's just great !
