Working with video (64bit version Live)

Post by anra » Thu Jul 21, 2016 11:37 am

I have tried the suggestions from https://www.ableton.com/en/help/article ... -playback/ but the video is buggy. When importing to a project which already has instruments there will be crash. Also when it's working a bit larger projects it seems to strain application and I'll get some choppy playback/crackles which never happens without the video included.

Are there any alternative workflow for this, for example I open video clip from other program but it syncs to Ableton Live timeline correctly when moving header etc?

Live 9.61 64 bit used.

Hi anra, what OS are you using, mac or pc? Also, what is the codec and size of the movie you're working with. Highly compressed video codecs such as H.264 are not the best for audio-post/non-linear video playback as they take a lot of CPU/GPU cycles to decode the compressed file during playback.

A good strategy is to export a version of the movie to a codec such as Photo Jpeg, which is a good trade-off between file size and quality. Also, you might not need a full HD image to do audio work to picture. If you render a smaller-sized video such as 854x480 for example, it should stress your system a lot less.

Hope this helps
