Is this already possible?

Post by Trent Crawford » Fri Jul 22, 2016 4:07 am

I want to use Ableton to loop my instruments live on stage: Aco Gtr, Banjo & Mandolin.

Have these scenes for each song: Intro / Verse / Chorus / Outro

Have pre made bass guitar parts and drums.

So example would be:
Record each of my intruments parts into the corresponding clip / scene slot... So once gtr is done for Verse and Chorus i can just switch between them and the guitar is always there... Then add Banjo for just the chorus... Then be able to noodle over it all with my mando and add a part if i want...

So i`m at the point where i can do what i want if i use my hands, but i can`t do that live.

When i assign a midi pedal on my FCB1010 to start clip recording, it only lets me record for the global quantize amount. I want it to react like it does when i literally click on it via my macbooks (mouse) pad... So the clip/loop can be as long or as short as i need it, and will start record one bar after i hit record.

I`m doing my head in trying to figure it out - thought i`de ask on here and see if anyone has any ideas / solutions? Like is there a global record button for a channels clip slots, so when that scene is playing it will record into that corresponding clip? And then then lenght of the recording issue...

Hoping ableton can do this! 8)

Thanks peoples!
Trent.

So, you are saying that if the global quantise is set to "one bar" - when you tap an FCB pedal once that it automatically cuts off the clip recording at one bar?

If so, you need to edit your FCB .
It's ages since I edited mine, but as I recall each pedal tap can send out a trigger on pedal down AND on pedal release. I think this is if you have set it to send note values, it sends a "note release" signal on pedal-up.

So on yours it is sending a start recording and then a very quick "stop recording" as you lift your foot.

As far as I remember I switched mine over to only use the CC values instead of notes. That should resolve it.

Yep - that is exactly what`s happening.

That`s great news! Thanks mate - look forward to giving that a go.

Will post results.

Thanks!

So... That works a treat! I can record loops how i want too as far as lenght goes. Progress!

I am still faced with this problem tho...

I have my live set setup as a setlist... So each song has roughly 4 parts each.

What i really need to be able to do is have a global "record to this track in whatever scene is currently on" feature... Does anyone know if this possible?

So by the end of my set i`de have a bunch of loops in those clips i would just disgard so next gig is a blank canvas do it all again.
